Thanks everyone. It sounds to me like it is just a bad rebuild. I have the warranty, but what a pain in the neck to have to pull it off and return it. |cussing|

Snoopy.....

That spring is NOT stronger.... it is WEAKER...

Your local chevy dealer has it in stock or can order it
for you at a cost of about 5 bucks...

The part number is 1958679 and it is an ACDelco spring...

The weaker spring has been around for at least 15 years and I run them in all 5 of my Corvettes (been there doen that with the hot start problem too many times... now I just installl the weaker sping as soon as I get another Corvette

The week spring requires MUCH less electricity to compress hence it lets the selonoid draw a lot less current. which helps when everything is hot and those
electrons flow kind of slow... .

Now on the subject of shims... Honest guys I have not had to shim a remanufactured starter is a very long time
I believe they (the shims) were included only if the remanufacturer actually milled the starters mating surface...not sure but that is what I have been told

As someone else said rebuilding and remanufacturing are two different things....

Took it out and brought it back. The guy at parts place confirmed it was a sticking solenoid. Put in a new one. So far so good. Thanks everyone! |smile|

Every so often I had a starting problem in a Camaro. It was the positive battery cable corroding under the protective sheath every time. Is anyone running one of those small, lightweight gear reduction starters?

I installed one on my vette while I did the engine replacement. The engine has 10.2:1 compression and it cranks fast and smooth. It is significantly lighter than the old one and easier to install because of the lower mass. It was an autozone one that was brand new. cost was about $120. It might not be worth it to some but it did make headers easy to install and the starter is farther away from them so heat is less of a problem.

I was thinking of using one if just for weight savings, and size alone.
