Hey guys,

Sorry I have been off the forums latlely. I have been working really hard, and I just built a new computer. Anyway, my dad was looking at mabey a supercharger kit. But we don't wanan upgrade to EFI. What do you think the best carb application supercharger kit is? But while I'm at it, won't I have to upgrade the edlebrock performer #27012, and 600CFM #1406 to something better?

Thanks guys,

-Louis

Unless you obtain an sealed box that completely encloses the carburetor, you'll need a carb made for supercharger use. The difference is the carb is likely jetted different but it is also sealed so no boost pressure is lost through the seals and gaskets.

Contact the carb companies and see who supplies blower ready carbs. You'll likely need to know what horspower level and boost you'll be working with to get the best size carb for your needs.

This applies to centrifugal superchargers. If you use a Roots-type blower that sticks up through the hood, it won't matter as the carb mounts above the blower. Gunslinger38517.4334375

Good to see you back, Louis !!
Your best bet with the blower is to contact the mfg., and get their recommendations. They will have the info, you just have to tell them what you're building, motor-trans-gear wise, and they can give you some good advice on the rest. You have to be careful of the compression ratio, and style/material of your pistons, because blown motors don't like a lot of compression, and they have a tendency to scatter pistons that are not made for the application.
You might want to go ahead with what you have now, get it all together and running, and then see how much more $$$$ you want to burn!!!

Hey guys,

Yeah know what you mean, I found a comapny taht makes a supercharger kit with a carb enclosure:

http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/products/yourcar/small_b lock.html

I think I'm gonna have to call them. They only reason why we are thinking this si now I ahve a 1989 FOrd Escort as my daily driver, so why not add a bit more power to the Vette?

Thanks guys,

-Louis

i checked out the specs on the supercharger- it says that you
get anywhere from 30% to 75% gains in HP- In the real world,
youre most likely to see 30-45% on a basic stock 350. Thats
a high $$ per HP ratio. you might want to try some more
traditional
things first before you outlay that kind of cash for your engine.

also one note- theres a thread called "perfomance
improvement for same HP" - its an article that mentions the use
a high perf torque converter. check out that thread- if you have
a 300 hp crate engine with some nice high quality components
and a high perf torque converter, you will be making tire smoke
with
ease- thats for sure. you probably wouldnt need a
supercharger.

keep in mind i am nowhere near as knowlegable as the old
salts here on c3vr, but i try to pass on what i learn.
