The aluminum heads I put on my engine don't have the same size hole to screw the temp sending unit into as the original. These heads have a 5/8 hole where the original was 3/4". We moved it to the intake, which is a pain because it's under the raditor hose and neck, plus, it doesn't register right. It will show anywhere from 210 to 240 degrees when I know it's not hot. Anyone else run into this problem and know of a 5/8" sending unit that will go back in the head and be accurate?

Pretty sure the 81-82 temp sending unit is smaller, just not sure what size it actually is, tho.

I did try a couple of 5/8" units, but the readings were way off. Were there other years that had the same kind of temp gauge as the '71 but were 5/8"instead of 3/4"?

Go to a plumbing supply and buy a 5/8 to 3/4 adapter. Did that a couple of times and woprked out OK...

It is also OK to put the sender into the intake manifold, as long as it is not in the thermostat housing above the thermostat.
