Ok so not really a contest but does anyone know what the hell this is. Im guessing it used to be attached to something, because everything else is, but I have no idea what.

It is the Tachometer filter. It is mounted on the block and is an inline feed/filter from the distributor to the tachometer. If your tach is functioning properly without jumping around then don't worry about hooking the filter back up. Hope this helps

teh filters go bad all the time they were really expensive for my car the connectors are the same w or w/o the filter so by-pass it.

Sometimes the tach will work fine without the filter. Other times the tach will be erratic, or inop without the filter. In a few cases long time use without a filter can cause the tach to start acting up, and the filter reinstalled cures it. It's a bit of a crap shoot. It should be there.
