Hey guys

I have a 77 that I put a new gm crate engine in last year. It has about 2000 miles on it and I just started to get a tick tick tick on the drivers side when she is idleing. when the gas is pressed it goes away. I been told it could be a lifter, any sugestions?

i had a tick on the passenger side and it turned out to be as simple as an exhaust leak.  how are your manifold/header gaskets?

Like Hmel '74 said, it could be a small exhaust leak, but those will normally not go away when you accelerate, or give it more gas, but it's possible.
Could be a lifter, too. What kind of crate engine is it? Does it have a roller cam, or a flat-tappet cam? May simply need an adjustment on the rockers...

Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.
I would look at adjustment of the lifters, they might have loosen up a bit from being new. also as suggested check for exhuast leakk

the engine has a flat-tappet cam. I will haul off the covers and check the rockers for play and keep updating

Thanks for the replys

Before taking off the valve cover take a long  screw driver with the engine warmed up and running and place the tip againist the valve cover at about each valve spring with you ear againist the handle listen for the loose or bad lifter, you will hear the sounds of the other rotating parts of your motor but if it is a lifter or rocker  it will pernounced, do the same at the exh. ports and where the head pipe bolts to the manifold for exhaust leaks, it may be hard to tell by taking the cover off if the lifter is not on  the heel of the cam.

I like to use a paper towel tube as a stethoscope to isolate the location of the noise. it helps sometimes.
