Recently purchased an 80 with the L48. Timing is way off. However I can't find a timing tab or anyplace one was located. Timed it by trial and error and its better but i know its still not right. Bought the Bolt on tab but can't even find a picture for where it should be placed. Any help! Thanks as always for a great forum from a first time Vette owner.

I put a chrome timing chain cover on my 79 years ago also with a seperate bolt on timing gauge. Basically, it bolts on using two of the front cover bolts on the drivers side that will put it in close contact with the damper. Hope this helps. Mike

If you look close you will notice a grove in the damper. This is the referance for top dead center. If you add an aftermarket pointer it bolts up like Mike said. Driver's side top. The spaceing between the bolt holes on the pointer will only line up to the proper bolts on the timeing cover. You really cant go wrong.
Get #1 cylinder up to top dead center and rotate your distributor until the grove on the damper lines up with the degree desired on the pointer.
I forgot to mention, mark the grove and the selected degree on the pointer with chalk or paint. This makes it much easier to read when useing the timeing light |thumb|
