Vette(s): 1977 L48 just purchased 07-20-05 this was a one owner corvette,had been in a garage for the last 4 year on blocks.I have the orignal sales invoice (purchased from Anthony AbrahamChevolet)for the total price of $10550 dollars.In MIAMI,FL.
Can anybody tell me what sizes bolt are used the fasten the Torsional Damper to the crankshaft.When I was installing a new power steering pump i found my damper completely loose and all the way nexted to the timing chain cover.I guess the last owner fail to install the bolts are they fell out.thanks glenn

I can't think of the size of that bolt off the top of my flat head, but....
If the balancer(dampner) is all the way back on the chain cover, it sounds like the outer ring is loose. The rubber between the inner and the outer rings can deteriorate, and the outer ring can walk towards the cover. Sometimes it will actually rub a hole in the timming chain cover, as well as make a scraping noise if it hits.
Please check your balancer carefully!!
The bolt will be a fine-thread, I think it is a 5/8", but I'm not sure...
You are asking about the bolt in the center of the crank, correct?
