Vette(s): 82 Silver/Gray with 80k miles, rear 275/60/15,
my 82 with 82k miles seems to have the valves tapping more these days. is this just in need of setting the timing or something else?

this happened on my car, you will either need to have someone look at it, or you can pull of the valve covers and adjust the valves, this is not difficult. Let us know what happens, or if you need more explanation.

Hi Mark
With that kind of milage it is time to adjust the valves and replace the valve cover gaskets. If the oil has'nt
been changed often,or the car is'nt run hard, you may have stickey lifters. To make sure, dump a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil in the oil,go drive it a couple of hundred miles, change the oil and adjust the valves.
Proper valve adjustment smoothes out the idle and gives you better throtle response.
Something else to keep in mind is that as the miles pile up the timing chain stretches, retarding cam timing.Even
2 degrees of negitive cam timing can make the engine sluggish with a lack of power, throtle response and poor
gas mileage.
