Does anyone know if the GM vortec heads with matching intake would fit under the stock hood of a C3. I checked with several parts vendors and can't get a def answer. It would be a great upgrade package at a low price if it will fit.
If not, are there any good, budget heads you could recommend? I've got the stock 882's now.

there are quite a few different vortec intakes.
you need to measure your current intake..
take a straight edge, measure depth at the front, measure at the back. average the two this give you the height..

most manufacturers give either a and b or the average
just make sure you new intake doesnt exceed your old one by much.. (1/4" or so if at all)

Anything, but Stock and more mods to come!
SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
The Heads will not affect height as they are just like any other small block head, just a different bolt pattern for the intake.
You would just need to take a front and rear height measurement in these areas and compare them with a vortec intake. There are only a few intakes that are currently being offered that fit the Vortec heads.
If you will look at this link it shows you how most manufacturers come up with the front and rear heights.

If that doesn't work, contact scoggin dickey GM performance they sell the vortec heads drilled to accept the early style GM intakes.

Hope that info helps

Thanks for the information.
I didn't think the actual heads would affect height, but Edelbrock states that their performer vortec will not fit under the stock vette hood, even though their standard performer will. The GMPP intake isn't clear if it will fit.
I guess I'll give it a try this Fall with the performer vortec and a 1" drop base cleaner - and let everyone know how it goes.

I have Vortec heads and Edelbrock Vortec performer intake under my hood. Had to trim down the the opening of the dropped base air filter housing, and keep the wingnut and stud short as possible.
Check clearance with a piece of clay before you go slamming the hood shut. With new body mounts in my car, I gained a little clearance. I do have a couple scrape marks under the hood from when I first put this in.
If you get the vortec heads, do yourself a favor and upgrade the rocker studs from press in to thread in ones. And throw in a set of "Comp Cam" beehive valve springs in. Stock vortec heads can handle up to .480" lift. Anything over that and you will have problems. Oh, and you will need self aligning rocker arms. Can't use guide plates. I have a set of Proform 1.6 roller rockers in mine. Little noisy, but they work well.
Good luck!

I think it's a awesome cam. I still get around 15 Hg of vacuum at idle. So all my vacuum operated accessories work well. Nice sounding idle. And man does that thing pull strong!
