I want to install a new cam, chain set and distributor on my 79.
Reading the Haynes manual can be confusing.
With the crank at TDC, it says to align the cam/chainset at 12 o'clock ( refer to pic). The pic shows the cam at 6 o'clock, dots facing each other. It says that this is the exhaust stroke, but states the engine needs to be timed on the compression stroke.
Can I just rotate the crank 360 degrees before setting the distributor? Or am I missing something?

Just put the #1 piston at top dead center and align the dots on the timing gears facing each other. (the cam dot will be at 6 o'clock) This will put your timing at TDC on the compression stroke.
