So I called Banks Power today. Based on what I was told about the twin turbo setup being around 6 grand, I was expecting their full crate engine to run around 12-13 grand. Boy was I in for a surprise. 37 thousand dollars. As beautiful as it would be to run, that is way way WAY above my budget. Back to the drawing board! I could go with a supercharged performance small block...or I could have a small block built and add just the Banks twin turbos alone...the latter seems nice because I'd save some gas money, I think. I just truly need the best setup for what I want to do. I'm looking to run a low 10 second quarter time and keep the car streetable...supercharger or turbocharger? Start throwin out ideas and advice, folks!

Cut a hole in the hood and stick a blower on it. Little cheaper route to go, and it looks way cool. I keep telling my girl that eventually someday she will be reading the backside of a 8-71 blower case while sitting in the car. lol
Just my opinion.

Just one question, with those kinds of mods, why the heck even talk about fuel mileage??
Which ever way you go, it's going to be a blast.
I know of an early 70s Trans Am, big block modified twin turbo show/drag race street legal car. He says it gets about 2 gallons per mile, if he takes it easy.

I think you can still build your turbo motor for a 13-14k budget. In fact I am putting together on paper a twin turbo motor with a budget of under 10k. It all depends on how much work you put in as opposed to paying for the labor. Not it will not be turn key as the banks motor. If it was me, I would buy the turbos, exhaust manifolds, waste gates, and all the oil feed plumbing from banks. Then come up with a good fuel injection system that you can program your self. Make sure it is up to the job of feeding 800 hp. (fuel pump and injector size.) Then get a good intercooler, or Ben was telling me about Alcohol/water injection to cool the air charge and make detonation less of a problem. Get a strong short block built for you and and get some good heads for the motor. Watch your compression though. Read the stats on the banks motor and copy it. Supercharging is indeed simpler than turbos but I think the more trouble is well worth it for a street car. It's up to you.

Anything, but Stock and more mods to come!
SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
Let me jump in on this one. Go get the December issue of Super Chevy. On the cover is an engine that I helped put together with Vrbancic Brothers Racing out in California. Its a blow through Supercharged engine that uses all off the shelf parts, albeit good parts aren't cheap, since everything was off the shelf and not custom it drops the price considerably. The article also lists every part used in the build up. Its 383 and made 720 HP and 644 lb ft. I talk to Vrbancic just yesterday and they said they have orders to build 4 more of those engines because of the article.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.

Checked it out on their web site, not a whole lot of info on it, guess they want to tease you into buying the mag. I will do that since I am interested myself. Hey aftershark.. do you know how well holley's fuel injection systems are set up for 15 psi boosted applications? I am designing a engine for a contest and wonder if the holley steath ram would be a good choice for it. I am not super knowlegeable on fuel injection, but is it a good idea to run a very high fuel pressure pump to compensate for the smallish injector size, that comes with the kit? I need to feed a hypothetical 850+ hp turbo motor. Do you have a better idea on this problem? I am trying to avoid spending a ton of money on getting huge and expensive injectors, since I am on a $10,000 budget for the whole engine.

If there's any opinions on those as well. Hrm...With All I'm ordering for jegs.com, I wonder if they'll ask em to marry them. Counting exhaust that's like 12 grand of products I'm gonna order from them all at once. Anyhow, advice and opinions, fire away!
(I honestly don't know if that transmission will be able to handle the power I'm looking for or not.)

The turbo 400 is one of the strongest automatics ever built. With the BM build, it should not have any problem with the power.
Is the 4L80E its close overdrive cousin? I've seen this tranny behind 1300 hp turbo cars.
