seems so ,yes Denny, and it looks really NEW ! As ken expained : there was a racing coil ( high voltage )  installed ( bought the car with that ) and this one "overcharged " the entire "stock" ingnition with arcing points , just growing... i looked a thousend times at that cap but seemed to me so new.... now i know better !

Vette(s): 1982 Black over red, doing a resto.

We used to mess up our buddys cars by taking the cap off and marking inside with a lead pencil, it would miss and backfire like mad!

I always had a spare cap with me!

Denny

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

No, none of his part were bad, not per say.  They just didn't get along

It's no different than putting different parts in any system and having them mismatched.   High performance will not always work well with stock.  With those stock type parts and an OEM type coil it would have ran fine as well.  OF course thats if the HP coil was never installed.  Once arcing damage is done, it cannot be reversed.

I'm very glad to hear it's okay.          Should you be ?  No not at all.

Glad I could help.

I sure am glad you guys got that thing fixed... At 8 pages of threads this one might be a world record for a single problem...

Dave

Sorry Dave, it isn't FIXED !!!  With the new secondary ignition i can indeed rev higher but above 3000 rpms there's still that vibration and the engine is sure not running good. I tought to be it a minor further tuning but it seems again ( o, no ) the same problem.....

Sorry Ken , i was toooo enthousiastic reving now 4500 rpms but i'm still far from a "normal" running engine.....

I even didn't go to the first meeting here in Belgium on last sunday because of that problem. I still have strange "square" running noises above 50 mph.

We sure are gonna beeeeet that world record !

YEAH, i know, but driving that engine isn't appealing me, sorry. My Viper is running "round" ! The vette is "square" , that means a lot of vibrations and i assume "misfires" ....

Barry,

I'm wondering how many black cats have crossed the road in front of you lately.
