Absolutely nothing except off-road books are a great source to find engine swap information.

I have always wanted to convert my engine to a serpentine belt system and the other day I was flipping through an offroad book and I saw were pace performance parts has a replacement serpentine system for the v-belt engine. The one they showed didn't have A/C.

So Today I went to there website and the offer another kit that comes complete with A/C.

Here is the link:
http://www.paceparts.com/product.asp?0=243&1=275&3=952

I have spoke to other C3 owners and they say that you can round up the parts off of later c3's and off of certain years of GM trucks, but heck this, although not the cheapest route to go, makes it a whole lot easier and gives us more time to |cheers| and less time trying to figure out a puzzle.

I also noticed they have a lot of EFI conversion harnesses under their electrical section for engine swaps.

I guess it goes to show that those off-road books have a purpose after all.

Thanks for the info. I'm always looking for unexpected sources of useful information. The Corvette and Chevy magazines are not the only sources of things which can work on our C3s. I'm getting some interior ideas from old style hot rodding magazines. The more info the better. |thumb|

I've seen that link before I saw this. Although that is one way to go, sometimes taking all that time to chase and find parts from three different vehicles and parts stores just isn't worth it. For me anyway!

I'm preparing to do an engine swap and have pretty much settled on the place to purchase the engine with. They offer the serpentine system on their engines as well.

Besides looking really cool, what are the advantages to the serpentine setup (if any)?

I'm having this kit installed right now. (See my posting under Cooling and heating/ AC OEM or not?) After I did my engine swap, the stock aleternator bracket left the alternator so far from the fan clutch that I ended up with a dreadful belt screech under hard acceleration. I and my mechanic tried everything to get rid of it. The only real solution I could come up with was the Serp Kit described above.

A couple of issues to consider:

The GMPP kit comes with a long water pump. All of the brackets are set to fit the long water pump. In going with the long water pump I lost my clutch fan and had to go with 2-10" eelectric fans.

Hood clearance is another bugger to be addressed. I measured the bracket and AC compressor this morning and it looks like I'm going to be within an inch of the hood (maybe/fingers crossed).

The price may seem a little steep but considering what you get: New alternator, power steering pump, water pump (long), AC compressor, brackets, bolts, spacers; The price really is pretty good. I got one (with air) from a local chevy dealer for the wholesale price of about $760 plus tax.

I'll be sure to let you know how the install goes.

All the best,
Andy

I was wondering about hood clearance. Let us know how it works out. |cool|

The GMPP Serpentine Kit with Air works under a stock 79/80 hood. I just got a call from my mechanic and while he still has to hook up the new electric fans, reroute the fuel lines, and find a new radiator hose, the hood clearance issue seems to be addressed.
We weren't able to install the idler/tensioner bracket under the AC Compressor as that would have hit the control arm but the belt is tight regardless of the tensioner's absence. I'll get the car back tomorrow and have it home for the weekend. So. . . next week it goes in for AC.
