The number on my engine block is 15S424916 (Then in a different style of stamping the number 22083 is stamped .)Is there any way to find out what these numbers means? Also dose anyone know of any books that I could get that would help with decoding the numbers on my car?

Well, i'm assuming that the number you are talking about is the number stamped on the "pad" on the front passenger side of the engine just below the head and above the timing chain cover. Basically that number does represent the matching number to the VIN number of your car... there should also be some letters around there too, usually 3 letters, like CHB or CHA..yours being a 1975 L48 auto, should be CHB.... but as for a book, the Black Book does cover most of these numbers..and casting numbers too. I've also used website http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-camaro-engine-codes.asp (there is a wealth of knowledge out there on the web... just, have to dig for it sometimes..)

1 Chevrolet Division of General Motors
5 Year of production (1975)
S St. Louis assembly plant code
4 Car line code. All Corvettes were a "4" for '75.
24916 Consecutive unit number; the 24, 916th 1975 Corvette assembled. May 1975.
If the engine is original, your VIN should end with 24916.
Check the pad again for a second stamping like this one.
Second stamp will be in larger characters and will identify the 350 and tell you when it was assembled at the Flint, Michigan engine assembly plant.

Thanks the information,I now know that my engine is the correct year. However not the one that came with the car. The last four on my car is24976,not 24916. Seeing how this is not the orginal motor is there any way or numbers to tell what engine this is?If it's a L48 or L82 motor?

Are you sure you are not confusing a one with a seven?
Seems funny you would get a motor exactly 60 units later.
I agree...make sure you have the pad clean and check the "7" again. That would be quite unique to have a replacement engine that close in the production series. Certainly possible but hard to believe.

Going out on a limb here....
Isnt the L-82 a 205 hp small block 350 and the L-48 a 350 small block base motor?
Lets see if I have been paying attention.

The V means it was assembled at Flint.

The O422 means it was assembled on April 22nd.
CHB means its a 1975, 350, 4 BBL, 165hp for a automatic transmission.
Then it says "fed". Dont have any idea what thats all about.
Hope that helps and yes I learned that here!

Whoa! Check the numbers again. Those two are awfully close. You may be mistaking the "7" for a "1".

The engine suffix code (last three characters of the second stamped number on the pad) will identify the engine and tell you whether it's an L-48 or an L-82. Fifth character in the VIN on the windshield post will tell you whether the original engine was the base model or the L-82. J for the L-48; T for the L-82.
