Dante,
I can't decode the head, but I think the date code (J84) is for October 8, 1974.
If I'm right about the date code on the head, it lools like the engine block is from a '74 or '75 4-barrell 350CI / 160 HP van or bus motor.
Deifinitely not a Corvette motor.

I tried to get the casting numbers off of the block but they have been damanged and are unreadable. The date code reads G289. The dipstick is on the passenger side..

Can anyone tell me what the block is that I have does it have 4 bolt mains and what type of pistons did it orginally have... I just want to know if this motor is possibly worth trying to build for more power
Dante,
G289 breaks down as a 1980 2 bolt motor out of the c-20 to 3500 truck with an auto trans. No HP #'s are avaiable for this block.
G= July (Seems right, engine was assembled in August)
28 = 28th day of the month
9 = I'm guessing 1979 which would agree with the head info posted from Dennis.
Don't be freaked out that it's a 2 bolt. Even the 60's 350 & 300 horsepower 327's were 2 bolts & I'm sure they could handle more.

TJW indicates a truck block. I'm guessing it's two-bolt main and will have flat top smog pistons.
