Vette(s): 1975 Stingray Nomad Wagon, with Daytona front, custom hood scoop, dual side vents; 420HP 350; Doug Nash 5 speed; 1980 rear end W/4:11 gears; Cherry Red metallic paint.

Ok, having trouble with the way my '74 is runnng.  Had a local carb shop replace the carb with a rebuild one, supposedly tested and working.  Car still didnt run right.

Now I think I found out why.  Behind the carb, infront of the distributor, theres a vaccuum line that comes off the intake manifold.  I traced this down to *nothing*.  It got disconnected when they put the carb on, and just set it down the side of the motor.

Could anybody tell me where its supposed to go?

Also, another problem i noticed while I am lurking around under the hood (never a good idea, Im the kinda mechanic that gives professional mechanics nightmares and funny storys.  I did learn how to change and gap my own spark plugs recently).   Should i be able to smell gas from the carb while the air filter assembly is off? the car was not started in about 4 days, and it isnt a powerful, but I do smell it. Sorry if this is stupid, I just want to make sure that I dont have a problem with the carb.

 Thanks! dave.

Vette(s): 1972 coupe/350 cid/mild cam/4 spd/20 ft. paint (looks perfect from 20 ft.), but it sure runs nice.

On my '72, a right-angled fitting pointing to the left of the car, has a vacuum hose going to the brake booster. Hope this helps.

There should be an aluminum fitting there, with one connection. The line goes over(towards the driver's side) about 5-6 inches, and there is a vac. "filter"(white plastic), and shortly after that, is the "check valve"(aluminum, with one in, and two out) for the headlight system. If you need, I can take a pic of my '74 for you.

You will be able to smell raw fuel when you take the air cleaner off. The vent for the fuel bowl is open to atmosphere, so there will be some stinky. The air filter will also absorb fuel odor.Adams' Apple38842.7346180556
