[QUOTE=dwright]Change the rear end to 4.11. You will be quicker off the line. Trade-off will be top end (you don't care) and gas milage. And more revs on the motor>
But you can easily change back when you want.
And you will still have money left over.
Which you can send to me.

well i think he on the right track... but the wrong solution..
Id say wait until you have a little more money and put in a 5 or 6 spd..
your problem is probably gearing with that close range 4 spd.. a wider range transmission would give you better performance all around without changing to a 4.11 and turning your car into a one trick pony.
you can make this change reversible as well..
the keesler and classicchevy5speed both sell tko-600's that require NO permanent modifications

[QUOTE=Gunslinger]I don't think you need to do too much. High flow exhaust, get the Q-jet rebuilt by someone who knows what they're doing, and maybe a new intake. New cam. etc., is nice, but the dollars can start rolling up real quick.
Get a hi-performance distributor and an MSD 6A or 6AL capactive discharge ingnition box. You can install the MSD behind the passenger side of the dash where it will be invisible to the naked eye. Open the plug gap an extra .010" and you'll notice a difference.
If you really want something to do with that extra grand...send it to me...you won't have to worry about how to spend it on the car!
Also...make a winning bid on Ebay for the 100th Life Membership in C3VR...you won't regret that!

the MSD is a good project... a new intake and an MSD setup would be a good improvement that you could do for under 1000$
also.. remember.. as long as you keep the original parts.. (bolts and everything labeled) then changing something liek the intake manifold is 2 hours away from being original.. you can always change it back.
Upgrading to a new ignition system & exhaust system, new plugs/wires made a noticeable difference on mine. Easy to change back to stock too.
Later on, consider getting the cam/lifters, intake manifold, headers as suggested above, you will notice an obvious gain on performance.
Just make sure you pick the right person to do the job, I've made a couple of mistakes which caused me to spend more than I expected to.

headers = headaches

just my .02 but cannot stand headers! they are great for performance .........perhaps the sealing and bolt technology have come a long way.... but I hated headers when i had them on my Monza years ago...... always blew out gaskets and had loose fasteners

You've got a good point. If I were to buy another Vette, I wouldn't need the house since my wife would kick me out of it!!
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!
