Hey Guys,
This summer I plan to mod my 350 L48. Its not the original engine and has about 8,000 miles (at the most). I currently have an Edelbrock Performer Intake and 600cfm carb, K&N filter, and true dual exhaust. I plan to put Dynomax headers on early summer. I want to put an additional $1200 - $1500 into it. Most of the work will be done by me. So what would you do with that budget to get as much speed and power out of it as possible??

I had to ponder this one a bit, spending someone eles money, that is more fun than spending my own. First you need a cam, set of lifters, pushrods should be adaquate. A set of roller rockers, all that should be good for 300. You may want to get a added boost on the spark, the HEI is ok but always can be improved, another 200. Heads are so expensive, if you could find a set of used 2.02, that would greatly increase flow, maybe another 400, that leaves about 500 left give or take, it really depends how much a kick in the pants yo want, I guess I would go for the NOS, and it not new, old, stock, you could get a smaller 100-150 shot for less than 400, and if you stay under 125 maybe even under the 150 boosr you don't need the extra fuel pump, and timing retard. You have it when you need it and you still have a good driver, the only draw back is the bottle, they take up room and were limited as it is, your in a little better shape than us earlier C3s but still. Thats my shot.

Heads (S/R Torquers abt 700bucks, spend more in ya want Aluminum).....Call Comp Cams or catch 'em online and tell them what your total package is gonna be (A MUST) and they will recommend to you a cam, springs, lifters, etc that'll work for you.....Also go to 1.6 roller rockers. A Good (Cloyes?) double roller timing chain, and spend the rest on chrome goodies....this is FUN spendin somebody elses money.....but thats what I'd do.......

'76 White Coupe, Auto, Compcam 260H, Weiand "Action Plus" Intake, 2 1/2" Chambered Pipes, Rebuilt Q-Jet, ReCurve Kit, 53K miles, White Leather Seats. "The Never Ending Battle In The Budget Based Quest For More HP & TQ."
Thanks for the info guys. It is always nice to tell people how to spend their money, isn't it? You guys definitely hit on some of the ideas that I had. I'm definitely getting a new cam, I was looking at the Comp Cam XE262. I was also thinking about getting 1.6 roller rockers. I wish heads weren't so expensive, a new pair sucks up most of my budget that's why I was thinking about getting mine machined. NOS is also in my mind. Edelbrock has a kit that isn't badly priced from Jegs, but I'm afraid that I'd cause damage using it incorrectly or too much because I couldn't get enough of the speed.
Thanks again for the ideas, they are greatly appreciated and let me know if you think of anything else.

With that kind of budget, I would definitely go for heads. No other bolt-on, besides NOS of course, will get you the kind of power you can get from a great set of heads. You should be able to afford most of the iron and aluminum heads currently available. A cam must be chosen with the heads in mind, so the best cam for your stock heads probably will not be the best cam for a set of heads you might purchase down the road. Good luck.
