I was wondering who has the Highest HP corvette on the forums. How much HP does it have?, and does it tear up U joint or axles? I have a built stroker motor with around 500 horse that i really would like to put in the corvette, but i am fighting with myself over the beating the rear end is going to take. any info would be appreciated...

Kyle

BTW..a litte info on my stroker... cross-drilled steel crank, forged rods, domed, forged pistons, 4 bolt main block, trick flow ported cast heads, 2.02" intake, 1.94" exhaust valves, crane cams 1.6 roller rockers, Isky .526"/230 duration cam, windage tray, pushrod guides, victor jr intake manifold, hooker super comp headers, double roller timing chain, and i have just purchased the MSD 6AL box, MSD pro billet distributor, and MSD blaster 2 coil. I am planning on running around a 2800-3000 rpm stall converter with a manual valvebody turbo 350.

well i dont have the highest hp vette here, my brother built a stroker 427 (1966, 427.435..bored it to a 496ci) he has had it dyno'd (seen the sheets) and he is running 650 hp and alil less torque. he also threw a richmond 5 speed in, and had 410 gears. we took it to the track and gernaded the rear end. there were gear teeth all over the place..looked like superman glared at it. he then put a race rear end with 456 gears...way bigger 1/2 shafts and off to to the track we went. didnt get past the tree. the 1/2 shaft blew out, taking the shock and nicking the glass under the seat. made a lot of smoke in the burnout tho. the car went home on a flat bed. there is a guy in california that makes race ready rear ends..very stout and strong. name is tom's differentials. i believe its about 5k for the setup..get yer visa card ready.

I've just got a pathetic 68 L-71 stock motor with 435hp. Guess I'll just have to junk it.

Although i love the corvette, i am definitely thinking about buying a car with a better rear end set up for the HP that this motor pushes. Nothing against corvette engineering, but i have talked to alot of people that said they have destroyed half shafts and U joints with a built motor in their corvette. I was thinking about buying a nice chevelle or nova to put the motor in.

on second thought....since i am running an automatic tranny, i probably could get away with the half shafts, but i would feel better if i had a better set up...

Look for an address named denny's drive shafts. I forget the actual address so type it in google and you should get an address. They sell half shafts that are guaranteed to outlast anything else in the rear..
The L88 cars were only rated at 430 HP but the guess is they were pushing between 525-550 and they, to the best of my knowledge had stock half shafts. Just make sure you use the half shafts that have regular bolts (big block) in them and not u-bolts (small block).

I know where Denny's drive shaft is, My cousin had them build him a drive shaft for his 76 Trans Am. Hes runnin around 650 horse and hasn't had a problem. Even if you do break a U joint, they will replace it for free. What's the difference between U joints in the big block and small block cars?. I was also looking at hardened yokes from Mid America Designs...

My money is on 4webers' vette. Problem is, he's never put it on a dyno, so even he doesn't know what the hp is.
