Pulled the plugs after the Tex-O-Kans mini meet & the verdict is in.

Without doing a leak down test, but with two Sierra Hotel mechanics reviewing the last two sets of plugs, we figure there has to be some compression ring issues.  The odds of having oil leak down from the valves in # 1,3, 2, & 4 seems remote at best. After 300 miles, the 4 plugs looked like crawdad mounds on the electrode.

The trip to Hot Springs will cost 2 sets of plugs, 1 set of wires, & 5 quarts of oil added @ 1/2 to 1 per tankful, plus fuel and then at around 145hp.

Mark, of Marks Machine Shop in Nicoma Park, OK nickel and dimed me up to well over $1,800 for the engine build and most likely didn't rework heads, punch cylinders, & may not've installed the double roller chain & gearset (I'll know this Sunday).  His 90 day warranty was eaten up by 4+ months in paint after engine install.  The manifold he installed was warped both on the intake and carburetor, as well as the water neck not being true and flat.

I should have been suspicious when he wanted the valve covers and pan so that he could provide me with a "sealed motor" the only way he would provide his POS 90 day guarantee.

After one run to BG where Brian (Redwingvette) helped w/the diagnosis, we did a plug & wire chg in the museum parking lot.  I spent $100 more for an L-82 aluminum intake to try to stop the leaks.  300 miles later, I have the same problem as @ BG.

GM Crate 270hp 350 time.  It's a decent price & a 3 yr 100k mile warranty. Should've done this the first time.

$100 extra for ceramic coat dark charcoal gray for the Rams Horns.

Thanks in advance to 71Shark for the use of his garage, lift, tools, talent, patience & heater.  Also, Mike Ray for his help.  As they say in Blazing Saddles, Mike: "More Beans Mr. Taggert?  I'd say you boys have had enough!"

There will be pix & an article in SB if there's room.  New motor available Thursday.  Hopefully, we'll have her ready for Hot SpringsWink

Anybody wants to come up this Sunday afternoon to pull her heart out, or next Sunday (tentatively, to reinstall) are welcome!  Come see how the Pro's DON'T do it!Rolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20LaughingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20LaughingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20Laughing

Yeppr, they is and it do.

On the up side, this will give Tim & I a chance to build up a stroker if the block is salvageable and the heads can be worked.  If not, we have a couple of other sets of heads around.

BTW, Joel, will you be willin' to drive her in HS to see what you think of the tranny.  I'm hopin' it will last until Unkle George sends me those $1200 confederate $$$ in May.  I figure you are the best judge of that.

Dennis,
Good luck with the swap.
It will be great to see the new heart at Hot Springs.

Thanks, Dave.

Keep your fingers and toes crossed that we get her swapped and enough miles for break-in so we can drive her over.

Durn Dennis that thing just keeps after you don't it? I sure hope everything comes out okay today. If not I'm sure I will get to read another sad story.

I hope the transplant goes well. At the rate of transplants are going I might end up being the last of the OEM (don't look inside) guys on the registry..... (Kidding)

Tanks, Joel.  You guys watch for another thread tomorrow.  I'm too tard to post it up tonight.

Suffice it to say, it is always a good thing to have a fire extinguisher in the garage.Wits%20End

Yeah... and pay no attention to the two marks on my forehead that are EXACTLY 11/16 apart.  Needless to say, its not boring.
