Install took longer than planned (what doesn't) and required several trips to the parts store. Who knew that hole in the backside of the water pump didn't go thru but still needed the gasket...
Finished her up around 11 last nite.
I will tell you that previously, a full tank would pull off to between full & 3/4 from my house to 71Sharks. I filled up just south of his house last nite and pulled into my driveway with it still past the full mark.
All in all, it went well. Lots of first time lessons learned, but pretty straightforward. It'll be interesting to see after the first 500 miles how she really performs. It really sucked, but was probably for the best, that a new mustang cobra pulled up and wanted to play last nite on the way home.
According to the mechanic I go to when I've screwed things up too bad to fix, the base motor is 270hp, the L-82 aluminum intake, rams horn GM factory headers and the sidepipes should help increase it north of the 270 mark. I may try and dyno it if I can get in on a pull when a guy we know rents it for all day.
I really appreciate the help from 71Shark and Mike Ray on this one. Couldn't have done it without them.
I guess Vicki and I will see you in Hot Springs after all!

The new motor just pulled down past full at the end of the drive last nite. Feels strong, but I haven't opened the back 2 barrels yet.
I would recommend a GM Crate Motor to anyone out there looking to replace rather than rebuild.
