Is anyone running the GM ZZ383?

Will my water pump fit and line up?

Can I use the 8" harmonic balancer supplied? will the pulleys line up?

Should I re-use the large radiator shroud? The older C3 do not have this. Does the shroud help cooling?

I know the 8' harmonic balancer fits. The short water pump and the rest should fall into place.

Vette(s): 1981, Black/Black, Engine bumped to about 400HP.Ext/int mostly stock.
From everything I've heard, you are asking for overheating problems if you don't use the fan shroud, especially in a Vette, which is prone to overheat due to the angle of the radiator among other causes, plus you are going to be running a higher-performance motor = more heat.  However, I would also add that I just re-installed my rebuild and much hopped-up 350 in my '81 (if should now have around 400 HP) and I swapped out the original radiator for an all aluminim Dewitts direct-fit model.  With the aluminum material and it has a much more surface area for cooling (I believe more tubes and it's definitely thinker) my car never gets above 180 degrees.  Without a shroud I don't know what it would be like, but the radiator sure does keep it much cooler than the factory one.

Pulleys, balancer: Thanks for the input, glad to hear everything should line up.

Fan Shroud: I took another look at the shroud this morning and I forgot it has the electric fan as an integral part. I'll plan to keep it on. A new radiator sounds great but my old one is solid and always did a great job of keeping her cool.

Good Afternoon FLA Vette,

Vetter Bob has a 383 stroker in his 69 Vette which I had built for him and is in Great..

I was curious about your engines fuel induction system i.e. what intake manifold do you have on the engine, distrbutor, carburerator and air cleaner.....And for kickers what is the elevation in you area..We are in Clearwater/Dunedin area.

Also have you had any problems with air fuel mixture or any "pinging" at 2800-3200 rpm while accelerating through the gears..Again also, what transmission are you running..In addition what static tming are you running and do you have vacuumn at the metered port on the carb...

Sorry for all the queries, however we are encountering a carb problem with a new carb...

Thank you and great choice of engine for your 80 Vette..8'' Harmonic will work with all the pulleys and short water pump, which is stock on all Vettes.

Thank you in advance for your time and comments, and have a wonderfull day

   Sal      80 Vette

Sal, my existing settup was the L82 with standard intake, HEI distributor, QJet, auto trany, tuned to 34 at 2500 RPM, super unleaded no pinging.

New engine is not in yet. Hopefully soon 1-2 weeks so no info yet on that one.

Good Evening,

Thank you for your reply..What will be on the 383 for carb, intake, etc.Just for my info what is the altitude in, I think Orlando, where you are located..With the Q-Jet in that area is fine (smaller primarys in carb)and is a750 CFM from factory..

Again thanks and wish you luck on your replant....Sal
