Very cool Dave!
That ductwork under your stock '82 hood is bonded to the underside. I'm sure with some careful trimming and light grinding you can "surgically" remove it. That might give you the extra room needed.
My crate engine was a tight fit with my old stock hood. I couldn't run an air gap manifold, and I had to trim the base on the drop base air cleaner housing. Now I have the L-88 style hood so that I could fit the nitrous plate under there and have room to spare.
So are you going to get a stouter set of gears in the rearend to compliment that new engine? Wink

Good luck with the new engine!

Dave,
Are you detailing the engine bay? Painting or just a good scrubbing?

I'm going to try using the K/N air cleaner with the element on the top and trim the inside of the hood so the air cleaner fit up into the hood. We'll see. I have the trap door removed so the air flow thru the hood is always open.
I have an 1800 stall converter in there now and I will leave it in. I had the trans rebuild/upgraded last year. I also have a new rear with 3.55 gears in there.
The side pipes have the glass packs, kind of in the middle between the full flow & the other one (don't remember the name). My friend has the full flow and on the highway they are really too noisy. I can always change them if needed.
I'm not detailing the engine bay because it's in a shop. We're cleaning up the wiring, getting rid of anything that is not used anymore.
Dave, I'll throw in some spare parts for you with the exhaust. The exhaust is in 2 sections (front Y with converter and the rear y with the mufflers) but I'll bring some wrenches so we can break it down more if we have to so it will fit in your car. The rear section is close to 6' long and a little under 4' wide at the mufflers.

Thanks Dave.
I was able to get all of the exhaust in my trunk to take to the recycle center, but the joint betwen the two rear sections was busted, so I could separate them.
I think at least one muffler will meed to come off, maybe both.
The front section fit OK, with the standard cat off.
And I will be happy to take any extra parts you don't need.

Ron78. Where are you?

Dave,
When I replaced the manifold & carb, I had a height issue as well. K&N has a 2" filter which made the difference. I also used the K&N filter top to make up for lost surface area of replacing the 4" filter with the 2".

Thanks Cookie, I'll see when the hood goes on. I'm sure I'll go with the K/N with the top inlet since my hood has the air scoop, I may have to cut it so the air cleaner fits up into it. I'm sure we can make it work.
