Has anyone put in the GM ZZ4 Turn Key engine.  I am wondering if the serpetine belt system fits.  I am planning on putting the orginal in a crate in the corner an switching out for awhile.  It would be nice to go with the serpintine system.

I put one in my '82, everything fit fine, I left off the fan and added dual electric fans, so far it's been great. I still have to try it out in real hot weather with the AC on.
The turn key is great, comes with EVERYTHING! I love mine, if you have questions PM me, I can e-mail you some pictures.

Did you have to put on a different water pump with the shorter shaft or did everything fit with no fan?

Did you go with the 355HP or the fast burn 385HP?

Appreicate the response I am trying to figure out all of the pitfalls so that the install goes smooth.

Any other advice would be helpful.

Brian,  I put  the ZZ-4 in my 73 last year and have had no major problems.  I kept the serpentine belt and did like Dave and left off the stock fan and went with dual electrics.  The only problem i had was with the lower idler pulley, which I so far have left off and  don't seem to miss.  I stayed with the long water pump that it came with it.  What carb did you get? Mine has the Holly 750cfm and I have found that thebest way to tune it is with a vacuum gauge.  Good luck Brian.

I have the 355HP.  With out the mechanical fan there is lots of room up front. You can leave off the fan shroud. The only place I found to be a little tight was the crank pulley to the front cross member, just be carefull there. You might as well put new motor mounts in also. I had to play with the heater hoses to get them to look good (out of the way). You will have to make up the fuel line. When you order it you can modify things if you want to, like a hot cam set up which gives you around 410HP. You can change valve covers, etc. to dress it up more if you want. I know a lot of guys with these engine and they all swear by them. They are bullet proof.

I did not do the ZZ4, but it is the same set up, GM crate.

Went with serpentine system also.  I put the March Performance serpentine system and you should know that I had to tap the block for the A/C bracket.  Did not see that coming, was not forewarned by March and was a PITA due to the fact we had to tap into a water jacket in the head.

So caveat emptor!

I ordered the turn-key and it's on the way.  What fans did you guys use and did you do a push or pull setup?

You used the serptine system and kept the long water pump and made it fit?

Use a pull set up. I have mine set up with a temp. sensor, but I also can turn them on with a switch, you need that if you have AC, need to have the air flowing over the condensor when the AC is on. If there is no AC, just the temp. sensor will do. The turn key comes with an AC compressor, so you need to delete it if you don't want it.
Good luck,
Dave
