Here's the story: I have the OEM 15x8 aluminum wheels on my 1982 except for one that appears to be an old repop, it has more of a brushed aluminum finish than the other three polished aluminum rims.  95% of people never even notice it but, of course, it bothers me  Ouch  It may be a while until I can pick up a new set of wheels, so in the meantime I might just replace that one rim with another very good/excellent condition stocker, if I can find one.  Contact me if you can help!

If it's a Kelsey Hayes wheel why not just polish it up? The brushed finish on the 79 and earlier wheels isn't that deep. Try sanding with progressively finer sandpaper starting with 200 and ending with 1000. Then a good aluminum polish. Anything you may find, especially on ebay will probably need some polishing up anyway.

I refinished 2 sets of wheels, getting them nicely polished and then dulling them back down with scotchbrite to get the brushed finish correct for 78/79. They were nice and shiney till I hit em with that scotchbrite! Did one set with the tires mounted with no problem.  Mike

I didn't realize the older wheels (78/79) were a brushed finish?  That's probably where the previous owner got this one from.  It's in very good shape.  I did polish up the other wheels (they looked like they hadn't been cleaned for 20 years) but it did not seem to make any difference in this one rim.

Is it clearcoated? Mine were, had to use paint stripper first. Then they polished up nicely. After I scotchbrited mine I reclearcoated them. Ya can't hurt the aluminum with sandpaper, strip the clearcoat if it's there and try the sandpaper.

If you still want to try finding another rim go through the "eBay C3 Auctions" found on the "Shopping" tab and take a peek out there.   Occasionally there are single wheels or sets of two out there.

The earlier rims do indeed have a clear-coat on them. Once you get that off, they will polish up just fine. That's what I have on the '74. They are '76 rims, and had the "machine" finish, with clear-coat. I stuck them in the washer at the shop to get all the crud off, then sanded them a bit, using some lacquer thinner while sanding, and polished them with a buffer, and compound. They look just like the later, polished rims.
