Vette(s): 1969 convertible L71 427/435 4-speed black interior
I've bought three cars off Ebay and sold a car that way as well. No horror stores at all. As well as e-mail, I called the sellers as well to get questions answered and to get a feel for the person.
I would avoid bidding on a car that has no photos posted. I like to see for myself what is being described. For as much as Corvettes can sell for, anyone who wants to sell one can certainly buy a digital camera and take some photos.
Good luck!

Like Suzanne I just bought my L82 off e-bay as a first bidder and don't consider myself a deadbeat by any stretch. Just happened to hear that vette vintage sold there. Came out as the highest bidder after sitting up all night sweating bullets. As a first bidder, I can tell you its no picnic bidding on a photo of a car 1400 miles away. Anyway deal is just coming to a close and so far I can't say anything bad about the experience. Got a low mile L82 after looking at hundreds, and got everything I wanted except the 4 speed.

Vette(s): 1970 COUPE - LS5 454 - AUTO - A/C,PS,PB,TILT. WHITE WITH RED INT. PRISTINE - LIKE THE DAY IT WAS BORN. (Previously owned a White '76. Sold it in 2000.)
I found my car on Ebay. After the auction ended, I called the seller and then flew to Scottsdale, AZ to see the car and bought it. I was lucky that he listed the car accurately. If I had flown out there and found problems, I would have been really pissed off.
Good luck.
Kevin
p.s. I'll give you $3,001.00

Vette(s): 1970 Monza Red LS5 I love our Vette!!!
New additions....
1971 War Bonnett Yellow coupe (survivor- even the clock works!)
1987 Medium Blue Metallic Z52
We just bought 2 corvettes on Ebay this weekend. We just started Ebay and had a 0 rating. We emailed with questions and exchanged phone numbers. I agree, if someone is interested and seems knowledgable, give them a chance. You have to start at the bottom remember?
Both experiences went well. We are the proud owners of a 1971 War Bonnet Yellow survivor. (even the clock works!!)
And a medium blue metallic 1987 Z52. (great cruiser... I got to drive her home...woooo hoooo!!! ( she has 48,000 miles )

I placed my 1974 454 4 speed vette on e-bay twice. The car is in really great shape with only 40,275 actual miles on it and everyone wanted it, but no one wanted to pay for it. I had several offers for trades, but the car still sits in heated storage for the winter. I guess it depends on what you are trying to get for the car, there are very few people that want to pay a fair price, everyone wants the deal of a life time. I guess the winter months isn't the time to sell a classic vette . But as my brother says, there is a butt for every seat! (He is a car salesmen) If you can't sell it this winter, spring would be a good time to try. Good Luck: Tim

I have bought and sold on ebay I now have a car up on sale on www.carsoup.com it is a C4 (no kidding). I also have a Solid Axle NCM Historical Motorama and Evolution Display Vette... Only trouble I like to drive my cars, the 58 cross country twice in two years and my daily driver is a 68 Big block tri power. C6 may be my next Vette. Save the Wave

I just bought my 75 on E-bay, my first purchase so I had a 0 rating. I did e-mail the seller when I used the buy-it-now option. All went well. The seller had a VERY good history. I added another very good.
Have never bought a car from e-bay (although have from usa corvette online) E-bay is bottom-fishers paradise, if you are selling an average car for an average price, you will probably sell it, anything high-end or show quality FORGET IT, it is the Walmart of the internet, I put one of my pristine vettes up for sale just to see what the reation would be--lots of know nothing first time buyers, with no $, and the stupidest questions I have ever been asked in 15 years of owning and selling vettes. Be prepared to be annoyed.

Hey Keith
Would be interested to hear if you had any problems getting your purchase across the border. I've heard that customs requires the ownership 48 hrs prior to crossing.Anything else that would be helpful? Thanks

Humblest apologies, Snoopy. You have probably bought and sold three corvettes since I last posted here but didn't mark my last post for feedback. Well, here is the rest of the story, to quote Paul Harvey. The vette in Chicago didn't go through. I was dealing with a broker and his client seemed to get a bit hinckey the closer we got to the end of the sale, so we hired a vette inspector to look at the vehicle. The solid #2 turned out to be a weak #3 and because the client had been less than honest with me, I cancelled the deal. I was fortunate enough to have a very honest broker who had a reputation to worry about and he promptly refunded my deposit and full payment. I looked at a lot more and finally bought a 72 coupe out of Washington state which was less than what was described but figured I paid a fair enough price for the final full bumper year and now am heads and rearend into restoring it..probably not what I really wanted to do, but hey, it makes the Alberta winter pass quicker (not to mention my pension cheque!) To answer your question, Snoopy, I hired Mackie transport out of Mississauga, Ontario and they did all the broker and custom work for $100 plus $125 admininstration fee which was well worth it. Yes the copy of title and bill of sale need to be with US customs at the port of exit 72 hours before the vehicle is exported from the US. I highly recommend Mackie, they use only enclosed transport and do all of North America and their price was the best of all the companies I checked into.
