Hi All, The car I went to see yesterday was pretty nice considering it was a 29 year old car but it had a few problems.
1. The drivers side inside door skin was peeled off at the attachment screw.
2. The ignition switch doesn't need the key to start the car, only to shut off the buzzer.
3. The heater core is leaking coolant on the passenger side carpet.
4. The rear bumper cap is cracking at the edges and is no where near the same color as the car.
5. T-Tops arent the same color as the car either.
Everything else seems to be ok. It has 15,500 miles and the owner wants $15,000 for it. It runs good, no rattles or clicks from the motor. How much is it worth?
I want to make a fair offer but don't know where to start. Any help?
Thanks,

I agree that price is insane! I wouldn't go more than $8-9K for a mint 75. I see them locally for $5500-7500 in decent shape, i would give it some careful thought before i would buy that.

Run far...run fast!
The seller is living in a dream world at that asking price. You've listed deficiencies that you can see...you can bet there are invisible problems as well.

I agree with the above.
Price has somewhat to do with location too (I'm in a high priced area) but I only paid just over $10,000 a year ago for a 75 that was completely redone except for some minor stuff (dash lights, wiper washer). That included a numbers matching rebuilt 350, and all new front end and rear end mechanicals. New exhaust and painted and detailed engine compartment.
With that much work, the car should be in the 5k - 9k range even in the highest priced markets.

Thanks for the input. I should have clarified some things. The drivetrain is L48 with 4 speed trans. Non tilt-tele wheel, Air cond, no power windows The interior was the custom one with wood grain panels and leather seats. The whole car was orange but the rear bumper, car and t-tops were all different shades of orange.
I agree the price is really high and I think I'll pass on it. I don't want to get into it over price with the lady. The car was her husbands and he is now in a home due to a stroke. I think her son told her to price the car at 15K because he wants it and no one else would pay that much for it.
Anyway, Thanks again for the input and if anyone sees a nice shark that is priced right PLEASE let me know.

There's a white '80-'81 for sale near my home. I have looked at it, but don't know the asking price. It needs the driver's seat re-upholstered (all leather), and the paint has some marks that may or may not buff out.
If you're interested, let me know and I'll get more info on it for you.

couldnt agree more
The interesting part is that the more descriptions that are listed about the car, the lower the price should be - not to mention that starting at $15K was coo-coo.
All those little extras it DOESN'T have (power windows, tilt-telescope, etc) all bring the price DOWN - not UP!
There may be some sentimental attachment to the car that they are building into the price. However, what's sentimental to them, isn't to anyone else.
Another thing is that while the mileage is low (if I remember correctly from the posting) you would want to find out how the car was kept since it obviously hasn't been driven very much. Or someone is messing with the odometer.
The different color panels is a good sign that somethings up. Perhaps not stored indoors, or worse, repaints from accidents.
