Vette(s): 1976 Brown with Buckskin Interior. I bought her on 9/15/03 and just received it on OCT 1st 2003!! It needs interior work, and some things under the hood, but I am so excited! Just waiting for Summer of 2004 to totally show it off.

Better stay away from this one. Just tell yourself it's not the one for you. Keep looking and your gonna find the one!!
That's what hapenned to me. Found my diamond in the rough. My car needed some help but with what I paid I was fine with what needed to be done.

Good point! Since you can't see the 100K marker then sure, you could say "Yep, the odometer is 100% accurate."

Hey, let's back up a minute. Is the 75 a roadster ?
If it is, with 15K miles, and the bumpers are legit color fade, plus it is a 4 speed with air, and crank up windows ? Those are rare for an air conditioned convert.
If it is a roadster, then with the work that needs done, and it has history, plus the bottom chassis area has not been mentioned yet, then I would tell them $10K right now, and let them counter, and top it off at $12K.
Now, if it is a coupe, then all bet's off.

hey mark, check out trader on line, classic cars. I picked my vett up in michigan. I drove out from jersey on the weekend, drove back, got horseless carriage to bring the car to me for $750.00 had the car in less than a week. I't took a couple years to find the right car for the right price. Don't rush into anything, ask for help like your doing. In the end get what you want, don't just settle for something. You'll thank yourself down the road.Have a great 4th of July.

I recently helped a friend sell his 76 L-48 4-speed. The car was PERFECT and all original with only 34,000 miles. Listed for 13,000, sold for 12,000 and people were almost fighting for it. This one sounds a little high. Don't forget to check for frame and birdcage rust in your search for that perfect car!

Wow, Wish I could have gotten in on that one!
By the way, How do you check the birdcage for rust? I crawled all under that orange car. I checked the frame attachment points (they were ok), I checked the front (everywhere I could see), I saw no rust. I know that a rusted windshield frame is bad (duh) but how do you check it without actually taking stuff apart?
This will be good to know for next time!
Thanks,

Mark,
My 75 has birdcage rust. The places that it is most obvious in are. The vertical edges of the windshield (A-Pillars) the windshield is transparent enough that you should be able to see a little rust there, my windshield also has brown stains running down the edges on the passengers side but you cannot see the rust on the pillar, obviously rusted. The bottom of the windshield frame is rusted, I can see the holes right off. these two things I was quoted around $1000 to fix, but that's assuming they don't break the windshield pulling it and there isn't more rust than expected. New windshield is around $500 from them. The other major place I noticed birdcage rust is in the lower part of the A-Pillar where the door hinges in. If you look near the hinges you might see rust if its really bad, if its not there may still be rust if you reach under the dash and around to where the hinges come into the car(may not be possible for you, depends on your flexibility and if the car has A/C ducts...mine are AWOL so under the dash is very open.) Those are the places I know of to look for for birdcage rust, another test is to have the owner run water over the roof of the car and windshield, if you can see, feel or detect evidence of the water entering the car, something is amiss be it rust or bad weatherstripping or something else.

Hope this helps! Remember, don't rush, you'll find one!
