I have an L48 350ci V8 195hp (that was pulled out of my 1979) for Sale.

It has about 92,000 miles on it and burns oil in 3 cylinders, so it needs to be rebuilt. Does NOT include intake manifold.

Please send me an email: adam@c3vr.com if you have any questions, would like pictures, or want to make me an offer.

Thanks!

If that is an original engine, why do you want to sell it? I would think the car would be worth more when you sell it if you had the original engine available even if not in the car.

Adam,
I agree with Glenn, having the original engine sometimes means a big difference in price when selling it. I consider keeping it if you can.

don't sell it you will regret it later. stick it in a corner somewhere, make it into a coffee table, use it for a christmas stand, paint it pink and let the kids use it for barbie's house. but don't sell it.

I don't plan to ever sell the car.
And if I did, who wants to buy a Vette that has a working engine in it, take that out, rebuild the original engine, and put the original back in, and now have another engine sitting around?!?

Seems like a big PIA to me!

So basically, if I'm not gonna sell the car, why keep the engine?

if i was looking for a corvette and the owner had the orgional engine with the car, i would pay extra to have it. Even if it was out of the car and a good working engine was in the car. once you sell that engine it will wind up in an old pick-up and you will never see it again. you will now have a non matching # car which is less desirable than a matching # car. I can understand how you feel that this is a PIA but unless the engine is destroyed and unrebuildable, you should try to keep the enging with the car. i understand that it is your car and you can do as you please to it, but i have been involved in collectable cars for 35 years and have heard loads of stories about people that threw away items for their car that they wish they had just stuck in a corner somewhere. 10 years from now when the new engine you put in needs a rebuild you may wish you had thet orgional engine to stick back in. i'm sure i'm not the only one in this club that feels the same way.

I understand both sides of this discussion. When I replaced my engine I had to trade mine into Jasper in exchange. I didn't have the money (or time, because it was my daily driver) to have it fixed or just keep it. I thought the same as you Adam, I'm going to have the car forever, so what does it matter if I have the original engine or not. I don't plan on keeping the engine that I have in there now either, but like I said, its the only thing I could afford when I had to make the decision. I still think kinda the same, so not having the original engine doesn't bother me much, but there are some times when I wish I still had the original engine. I wish I could find it somehow. If you can afford to keep it and have a place for it, it doesn't hurt to have it.

I am putting a 454 into my '69 basically for the primary purpose of not destroying the original 427. Once the money for the new engine is spent, it costs you nothing to keep the old one in a corner...heck, you never even have to feed it or change it's diapers. Put a plastic bag over it and rotate it every once and a while to keep it lubed.
Adam, no kiddin', you should keep it. I am also planning to keep my '69 for ever, but I am smart enough to realize that for ever is a very long time and situations change if we want them to or not. And it definatly will be worth more at sale time. If you ever sell it, you price it at X $s as is with original engine crated or at XX $s with original engine installed and just drive it to a mechanic and have his price to swap engines included in the XX $ price.
You can see for yourself the huge difference in price the matching number cars bring, and that is not only for Corvettes.

i plan on doing the same later on. pulling the orgional engine. putting it in the corner of the garage and dropping in a crate motor. selling your used engine you might get $250. bt you car will be worth thousands less and more difficult to sell. i know you say you will never sell you corvette biy i have also said that to many cars i have owned 57 chevy, 67 chevelle ss396, 69 hurst/olds (wish i still had that one). as much as i love my current c3 if i found a sweetheart of a deal on a nicer and rarer one i might be tempted to sell it. i said might
