If you own one of the following 'Vettes, and want to get the orig. engine back, I can hook you up with the guy who has it!
1974 vin # 22468 (350)
'75 vin # 32962
'78 vin # 32197
Also, if you own a '69 427 coupe, vin # 25693, I can put you in touch with the original paperwork, including the Protect-o-plate, warranty card, owner's man., & radio instructions, in the orig. package.
Don't know about pricing on any of this, but it would be worth checking out, if you own one of these vehicles.

Usually, the trail always leads back to whomever swapped it in the first place.
Sometimes the thing is still sitting in the corner of a garage,"I was gonna fix it someday/I was gonna put it in my Chevette".
Luck has a BIG role in it, too.
If you can trace the history of the car back to the orig. owner, and can find when & who swapped it, that's the actual start of the hunt. I know of one owner of a '53 'Vette that actually found the original engine for his car in a neighbors garage! It had been separated for over 30 years from the car. The neighbor was tellin' the guy he had an old six cyl. Chevy engine and would the other guy be willing to take it off his hands? Turns out to be the orig. eng. for this 'Vette that the guy had been restoring for several years!

Is it possible to tell if my car was originally a BB or SB? I do not have a build sheet. It does have the original rear panel for a side pipe car. the tach has a 6500 rpm redline with a 7000 rpm limit. It also has a BB hood. I would love to make it original someday, but for now it would help when ordering other parts.

I know there are visual differences, but I'm having a real hard time remembering which is which.
The big-blocks all had rear sway bars, and the H/D axles, but any of this stuff could be changed.
There is a difference in the way the fuel line runs from the frame to the fuel pump, and this is something that most "fakers" don't bother to change. The line for a small-block car I think comes out of the frame pretty straight, and the big-blocks were bent to better position the line to the pump. I'm going to check a little deeper and see if I can clarify this.
I'll bet someone here with a fact. b-block can give you some other things to look for. Anyone got a judging manual for '68, or an "AIM"?
