1978 CHEVROLET CORVETTE PACE CAR

8 ACTUAL MILES! JUST PULLED FROM A 27 YEAR HIBERNATION. ONE OWNER BOUGHT IT NEW IN TENN. HE TRAILERED IT HOME AND PUT IT ON BLOCKS IN HIS GARAGE UNDER COVER . HE SAVED ALL THE ORIGINAL PAPERS. WINDOW STICKER AND EPA STICKER STILL GLUED TO WINDOW. CARPETS STILL COVERED IN CORVETTE CARDBOARD AND SEATS STILL WRAPPED IN PLASTIC. HAS ORIGINAL DEALERS LICENSE PLATE, COPY OF STATEMENT OF ORIGIN, 2 INVOICES, BUILD SHEET, ODOMETER STATEMENT WHEN NEW SHOWING 4 MILES, WARRANTY BOOKLET, MANUALS, SALES BROCHURE, EXTRA KEYS AND MORE. OWNER WAS ALMOST IN TEARS AS HE SOLD HIS BABY. IT WAS ORDERED WITH THE HIGH PERFORMANCE L-82 MOTOR AND LOTS OF OPTIONS. INCLUDES THE PACE CAR DECALS ON THE DOOR. EXCELLENT, ALL ORIGINAL CONDITION. NEVER RESTORED. WE RECENTLY SERVICED THE CAR. CLOCK STILL WORKS. THE '78 PACE CAR HAS A BEAUTIFUL COMBINATION OF COLORS, HIGHLY OPTIONED AND WAS LIMITED PRODUCTION. WILL ONLY CONTINUE TO CLIMB IN PRICE.

 

I would love to have it, but I would be afraid to drive it.

If you're ever looking for something to do in the Chicago area, or are within a day's drive and like old cars, check this place out. It's about 40 miles north of Chicago and 50 miles south of Milwaukee, in Volo, Illinois. It's called the Volo Auto Museum and, the last time I checked, they had a super clean 56 Corvette and NINE extremely clean 69 Camaros. (They're not cheap-he wants $90K for the Vette.) They have 4 or 5 buildings full of old classic and muscle cars. It's probably the best collection of classic and muscle cars that are all for sale in the US, if not the world.......

 

This car is worth no where close to $51K.  #1 I'd rather have a Pace Car thats been driven, I want a Vette I can drive not one with no miles so I'd be affraid to drive it.  That engine have about the same amount of rust as mine does. 

Cool post though, always fun to see a 27 yr old car with that many miles

Thanks for this post, I will probally make a day trip to this place. It sounds like a good place for the local vette guys to take our wives on a cruise.

You could easily spend several hours there. In case some of the wives/girlfriends aren't into cars as much as the guys, there's a big building full of 50s and 60s odds and ends, and there's also a good-sized snack bar they can sit around in and chat. There's an admission charge of somewhere between $5 and $10, but maybe if you called ahead and showed some interest in a certain car they would waive it for you and your "mechanic buddies" who are there to help you evaluate it. Even if you have to pay it it's well worth it because, like I said before, it's probably the nicest collection of really clean classic and muscle cars that are all for sale anywhere in the world. I forgot to mention you can look into their service area and see what they're working on. They have their own staff of mechanics and body men there too. Their web address is in my first post- www.volocars.com. Have you been to Atlanta to the American Sportscar Center www.buyavette.net to check out the dozens of Vettes there? The last time I checked they had over 50 that were 1982 and older. They're a lot closer to you and might make a nice cruise destination some weekend.......
