I know nothing is guaranteed, but am I right in thinking this car is likely to be in pretty good shape

Vette(s): 1980 L-48 still in the middle of a frame-off.

0 miles? Check and see if you can talk to the seller on the phone and ask for some info. Numbers matching, mileage, recent service work, looks like the suspension had some work on it.

Ask if they will take some detailed photographs of the car and email them to you. You really should see the car in person. Talk is cheap.

Good luck. It looks good but information is your friend.

Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Just bought it from my uncle who owned it since 1971. Fathom green, green interior. 350/300, T400.

I agree, $14k is alot of money, and there's alot that can be hidden, or just not disclosed. Frame damage can be very expensive, for that kind of money I'd definately drive it and look at the underside on a lift.

If you are serious - pics look pretty good - but someone should see and drive the car. Perhaps a local member would do you the honor and go see the car - or hire a local "inspector" to survey the car and give you a detailed report NCRA  can supply you with a name

Big AL - Good luck - I have a BLUE cousin to this red one

Looks good to me from what photo's they give.  I agree with Indy99 on the info part.  See if you can get any history on it.  Most of the time, even if the car drives and looks good your are gonna have something break on it sooner or later.  Old cars do that....it's close to 40 years old.    Actually, that's cheap for a chromie.

Good luck and keep us informed......PLEASE??

Vette(s): 1981 - 59 Beige over Cinnebar leather. Edlebrock top end, 2200 stall w/shift kit, 3:55s, Mufflex maniback exhaust, nice stereo, 16 in AREs w/BFGs
14k is alot of money for anything.  FYI, it didnt make reserve..  imho, this is a low 20k car if the numbers are right and its a solid driver. I have a friend who bought from Holt and was thrilled, they sold him a nice car.  That being said, I like that the patina matches the wear.  Its about 300.00 to get the car checked, I would not buy a car without having it done.  I like this one too..

I called the seller. He bought it at a classic car auction. doesn't know the history on it. Headlights, wipers, etc work. It has AC - I asked if it worked and he said he didn't know since it was winter. Classic car salesman response. My concern is still the frame and birdcage. He's selling it locally for 22K. My max bid is 15K, so I know it won't hit the reserve (didn't tell me what it was, but it's likely not much lower than 22K). I give him my info and told him to call me if it doesn't meet reserve and is still available. I might consider flying up to check it out - still debating that one.

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.

John,

Like indy99. I'm also wondering about the "0" miles. Has the car had a recent restoration or is it just so old that he isn't required to list the miles?

In reviewing the dealer's feedback, he has 100% positive feedback but all but 1 item, he was the buyer, not the seller. I would definitely have someone check this car out before bidding over the current bid $14,100.

You can get the car checked out by a professional far cheaper than you can fly there to do it yourself. I have used Carchex and was happy with their report.

Good Luck!!!

Jim - thanks for the info. I was looking at Carchex's website a little bit ago. Glad to hear they do a good job. I'm just going to sit back and let the auction run out and then see if he calls me. Then I'll decide if I want to get more serious about pursuing. Btw, the odometer reads 6431, so it's at least 106431.

Looked up the value and for a '72 GOOD rated car, it's worth $21,000 with air.  SHOW READY it's $25,000, AVERAGE it's $18,500 & NEEDS TLC, it's $11,000.  Can't add $ to the value uless it's an LT1.  This car is an Automatic with a 350ci/200hp.

I've seen alot of cars on Ebay that say "0" miles.    On a second look, the driver's side seat looks rough.  Floor pans look good.  Can't really see much of the frame.  Then ya wonder if the shots of the undercarriage is really that car or some other car he's got for sale.  Personally, I wouldn't buy an automatic cuz I don't like 'em.  The air is a good resale value.  It's probably not working from what the sales guy talked like.  Could be the switch under the dash or the compresser.  I replaced the switch in mine and she blows good and strong (for an older tech car).

Doesn't someone on the Forum live near there and could maybe take a peek at it, check out the bird cage and drive it??

Just my "tom boy" 2 cents worth.
