Mick - thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to let this one pass. Although I'm anxious to get my vette, I'm going to take my time and make sure I get the right one for me. I'm going to start by looking in a 4 - 5 hour driving radius from here (north Alabama), so I can driv eto look at anything of interest. Thanks again to everyone for their comments and help!

If you are really interested and get a chance to buy it. Run a CarFax report on it. You can find out some of the history from the report.
Myself I would do this, look at it, and drive the thing.
Another option would be to ask if there are any members who could check it out for you. (We all like to gaze at a piece of American sportscar history).

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.

Mick,

About the "book value" of ANY car.... I was trying to sell a midyear corvette to this gentleman and told him the book value was $48,000. His question to me, "how many cars have you ever sold to a book"? Good point I guess.

The paint looks new and so does the interior, and no mention of it. plus it just says a 350 cubic inch engine.so ask a lot of questions for sure.I'd be wary of it without seeing it .

I thought it was interesting in the description that it has air conditioning and astro-ventilation. I thought Chevy didn't put the astrovent on factory A/C equipped cars. Or does that just hold true in later years?

FWIW: This car really looks good, but I would want to see it up close. It's listed on the Holt website for $22,900

Ok, first let me say that I'm not bidding on this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem& ;item=4627771475&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&am p;rd=1

In fact, I've resolved to just use e-bay as another source of classifeid ad to find cars to go look at. Anyways, the person listing sent additional pictures as requested. His description states the car has had a frame off restoration. Those pictures were not included. I e-mailed back asking to see them. Here's his response:

 John,
For the safety and protection of the buyer the restoration pictures can be seen in person only
available for viewing in person.

                                   Thanks,
                                     Mike

I replied back:
Mike:

      I don?t understand?

Thanks,

JOhn

His response was:

 John,
The restoration pictures are one of a kind, if posted on the internet they are public domain.
The buyer of the vehicle is also buying those pictures that document the vehicles restoration, which in reality is part of the vehicles value.
But I do not have a problem with anyone viewing the pictures in person. If it were my choice everyone that has placed a bid would have at least seen the vehicle. Most bid without seeing the rest of the pictures of the vehicle as it sits now.

              thanks,
                 Mike

So I'm thinking he's way too paranoid, or he's trying to pull a fast one. Seems to me if is was trying to get top dollar, I'd give all the info I could if the car was in such great shape. I'm posting this to help others realize that the other comments in this thread have been spot-on. Touch it and drive it before you buy it.
