Topic: Still searching for a bezel,Finder’s Fee!
in Forum: C3 For Sale/Wanted Archive
Ok, it's been over a year and I still haven't been able to find an original insturment bezel for my '69. I've spent several hours on the phone searching vendors with no success. I'm in Iowa so I don't get to alot of big shows. If any of you guys find one at a show would you get contact info for me? $20 finder's fee! (I did find one at Crane's corvette for $450, but I think that's a little high, or at least more than what it's worth to me).
Thanks,
Matt

Thanks Butch,
That one has the top part broke off like most of them. The seller either doesn't know it, or "forgot to list it"
Thanks for trying though.

I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...
I looked for over a year and it cost me $300.00 and that was a bargan. I purchased stuff from Cranes and he can be a bit high but the parts I bought were as close to perfect as you can get. Remember that he will have California parts which are typically better than anything we see. All the clean original parts for our bumper cars are headed the way of the C2 stuff.
Try Scott at Corvette Works. 586.536.5166. He will probably want 300-450 too. These originals are becoming impossible to find. 69-71 bezels are identical and even have the same part number.
Lastly, contact NCRS. They have been a huge help in finding reputable sources for parts and service.

You guys are awesome! I found one this afternoon from Piper's, their web address is www.pipersauto.com It cost me $200, I thought that was a bargain. I wish I would've seen the one for $55 earlier, but I'm just happy to have one.
Thanks for all the websites and help,
Matt

Matt....
I can not help you....But I went know I had one laying around the garage BUT when I was going to GIVE it to a club member earlier in the year for his 69 I discovered it also was broken at the top...
You guys have any idea why they all seem to be broke? I know its thin
about 2/3rds of the way up ..But never really though they would break that easy just sittin in a pile of "old" parts... lol

HI Bob,
I was told that the bezel was designed to break there in the event of an accident for safety. When looking at the bezel the area where they all break is quite thin. It makes sense to me.
Part of the problem is that most people do not know to never pull on the top of the bezel. I think there may even be a note to that effect in the service manual. Even of you pull out at the bottom, a lot of time the bezel is stuck to the dash pad which causes it to break too.
We all know what a PITA it is to reassemble the dash in a C3!
