Vette(s): My 1974 Vette sold last August 2014. I am still willing to show up to events and local gatherings if anything happening No new vette yet.

hi everyone.

here is my story. yesterday 9/10/06 i went to a car show and entered. i lost to a couple of older vettes. i asked the judges what i failed on. they said my engine is dirty and needs detailing, my rims are knicked up and scratched and no amount of polish will hide it all and my tires are dry rotted and worn out. other wise my interior they loved and the paint job.

my solutions are this so far:

this year late october/ early november i am dropping my car off to get the engine rebuilt and to get everything detailed and painted the original colrs throughout my engine area. so my car will be good to go for shows next year in that area.

the tires i am ordering soon the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires from tirerack for 68 bucks a tire and i heard they are great cruisng tires.

my problem is i dont know where to get my rims at a decent price, i dont want to be cheap but i am not made of money, where can i get OEM rims and pieces like that? trying to restore my car not go aftermarket.

thanks for your input,

Jeremy H.

[/QUOTE]  You get your wheels by doing just what you are doing . let people know you are looking for a set. There have been a lot of nice wheels pulled off , only to be replaced by mags. Ebay is a good place to look also.

I am running the Indy 500 on my 77 and love them. I only with I had bought those for the 71 instead of the Goodyears.

Finally.... build the car for you, not for the judges. While you might like the show circuit now, believe me it gets old. I still go to a few car shows but I pay my fee and tell them not to even bother judging mine. I threw away 53 trophies before I moved out here and am living just fine without them.

Have fun with it and never take it too serious and you will be a happy camper for years to come !

i love shows been doing them since i was 16 and will probably still do em forever. i got a bunch of friends with diff. year vettes and we all roll together. the trophies arent a big deal. i have my share at my house as well but it wouldn't hurt to see what needs to be changed in the eyes of NCRS judges either. besides its fun getting it nice and clean lookin. i am never critical or snap if i dont win. some people asked why do i bother. i tell them "why not, its a perfect day and i like showin off my vette"  anyhow. thanks. i have been lookin around ebay for a bit.  any sites out there someone know of or other suggestions?

Dont let it get you down,,  I've done judging and I will always give a nice set of orig rims the nod over new repros.  I always gave the nod to the guy who drives his car.  DRIVE THE THING and dont worry bout the hardware!

Kebo is right. NCSR judging actually gives you bonus points for driving your car! This can off-set some deductions for stuff like a scratched rim, or dirt in the engine compartment. We would rather see an original part that has some damage/wear, than a brand new re-pro part.
Now, in local show judging, and stuff like ISCA competition is not geared towards the "original" cars. They are more interested in da "bling".

I have the alloy rims on my '74...not original at all, but I do have the original rallies. I drive the alloys, and show the rallies in NCRS. Local stuff, I keep the alloys on, and I've never been gigged for the scratches on them. Maybe the judges at your particular show were just being a wee bit anal.

Maybe you could find a wheel repair place in your area, and ask if they could do you any good on your rims?
Are you talking about the alloy rims, or the factory rally rims?

i dont remember where...  but one of the common vette parts houses sells OEM rallys with whatever date stamp you want to use.

They dont cost that much more than a OEM rally without a specific date
