Where do you guys find the best prices on GM / AcDelco parts? Do you find the local dealers just as competitive as anyone else?
Reason: need to do a decent tune on my 76 this spring - wires, plugs, cap rotor, filters and etc.
One of the Vette vendors sells a complete kit for about $100, which seems reasonable when you start pricing everything out. The prices just seem to be all over the place, any suggestions?
Thanks

what I did was buddy up with the parts guy and told him if he were to give me a good deal, then I'd come there to the dealership to buy my parts instead of shopping around.... I was getting parts for GM employee prices...
After a couple of good deals, i bought him lunch one day and then anytime i called, he gave me 1st class service and great prices! I even have a "pay as I can" set-up...
In Australia I buy them wherever I can. But I have a similar dealer here in the Alice that 74stingray454 has. Anything specifically Vette I buy direct from Ecklers or Corvette Central. Haven't tried any of the others in the US yet as I've had great service from these two. I get regular catalogues and can do all my ordering online. My biggest problem is heavy or large items. Freight to Oz is murder and I get charged Import Tax on anything more expensive than $AU1000.
When I need specific parts for either my Corvette or my Camaro I check with gmpartsdirect.com Their parts prices are really good, but a lot of the time they get you in the end with high shipping costs

You'll likely get a better deal on restoration parts from one of the many vendors (Ecklers, Mid-America, Zip, etc.). I also picked up one of those "tune-up sets" you saw, I thought it was a good deal too

"Parts is parts", as the say around here! I get all I can from the dealer for some stuff. Any GM dealer can get ANY GM part, so you don't have to deal with a Chevy dealer, if you have a buddy that werks for a Cadillac, or Pontiac dealer. Some of the stuff is cheaper from the dealer, some is not. The big vendors, like Mid-Am, and Ecklers, buy enough stock from GM that they get a real break on the prices, so SOMETIMES, they'll pass that savings on to us.(yeah..RITE!)
When I needed a new ECM for the '85 'Vette, I got it from the Chevy dealer. It was cheaper than a reman.

I just did a minor tune-up my vette (plugs, wires, cap & rotor) and got from local parts house here in town. Afterwords, I saw that tune-up kit in the catalog (Mid-america I think), and wished I had gone that route instead. I would have gotten more for less money. Its a good deal...
I've had good luck with miscellaneous parts from the local NAPA store. Not just for "The Toy", but for all the vehicles in the "family fleet". I'm in there often enough that I know most of the guys behind the counter. They are the last of the parts outlets that have remained in the immediate area where I live. There are other outlets in the TC metro area but all are a farther drive to get to.
I've bought things from Zip, Corvette Central, MAM, and a couple of others but Bair's by far has been the best of the bunch IMO.
I get all my switches and electrical stuff from my local Chevy dealer. Their parts guy is a good pal who even got my ZZ-4s busted crank warrenteed with a whole new short block after 8 years. I find aftermarket electrical parts such as power window and headlight switches are junk.
It's amazing how many "mundane" parts, such as brake boosters and A/C compressors are available from the chains like Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilys, and AutoZone.
