It's snowing again today so spent some quality time in the garage opening up the dash to see what radio parts were back there. As I suspected, "The Toy" originally came with a mono AM/FM as the Convector Assembly is still there as well as the power plug to the radio.

The radio I purchased from Gunther (WESCH) is a stereo unit so I need to find the Adapter Assembly (part #7311911), mounting bracket (part #3921416) and post nuts (part #7279805) for securing the radio to the bezel.

Does anyone know if there is a separate wiring harness for the speakers, or does all of that come off the Adapter Assembly? I can't really tell from the drawings in my AIM. If it is a separate harness I need that too.

Hi
Saw your mail on the post nuts.
Your right, I tried all I had from other radios on my 68 radio and they don't fit. |dead|
I took one nut off and will check our stock at work.
This will not be original, but I hope I can find some thin nuts that fit.
Will let you know.
For the speaker harness, yes, you need those harnesses. One speaker comes off the radio direct, goes to the 2 pin plug, the other speaker comes of from the stereo ampl unit going to a similar plug.
Hope you can locate one of this stereo ampl.
Did you try this vintage radio repair guys already ?

Hi
Man, this post nuts have a strange size.
I tried many nuts from aircraft switches and fuses and are all either much smaller or just a bit too large.
Will speak to our mashine shop to see, if they know the size of this threads.
Sorry, Gunther |eek|

I checked at a local hardware store this afternoon and the fellow there tried several different types/sizes. He thought it was a fine thread metric 12 with a 1.00 pitch. He had sizes larger and smaller, but not that one.

The search continues.... Thanks for looking.

Hi Jim

On the corvetteforum, C3 parts side, somebody is looking for a cheap , not working 70 radio.
Pls check the replies, somebody else offered his 70 not working radio to him for cheap money. As it is intended to be used for spare parts, may be he lets you have the post nuts.
Worth a trie.

Thanks for the lead Gunther. I've sent out feelers to all the places in the info you sent with the radio and most have come back with "Sorry, can't help you" replies. I called a local Corvette parts place today to see what they might have. They don't part out the used radios they get in from time to time, they sell them complete because they know how hard it is to find individual pieces. But they do have a packet of mounting nuts so will take the radio and go for a drive up there on Saturday. Hopefully they're the right fit.

Update -
Success on the post nuts...!!! Looks like a swing and a miss on the adapter assembly though. Forgot to take the pictures with from the CF posting. Will keep looking, but may have to change direction and look for a mono radio if I can't come up with the correct assembly in the near future.

Update II -
Success on the adapter assembly...!!! |bouncy| |bouncy| |bouncy| Found one at a Corvette parts place (new and used) about an hour's drive from my place. Pick it up sometime this week. I'm probably paying too much for it, but at least the fellow is willing to sell it to me. All of the other places I've contacted will only sell complete packages, which are WAY outside my budget. The 9 pin (?) plug from the unit to the radio is intact, but a two wire combo coming from it has been cut so need to figure out where that goes to. Juliet or Gunther - where do the wires to the speakers come from? The speakers currently in "The Toy" look like they were installed when the aftermarket P.O.S. was put in so know I'll probably have to jury-jig the connectors.

Hey, great find.
Would have been so much more difficult for me to find it from over here.
It appeares that there is no Vette scrap jard in Europe. Wonder what happens to this cars.
Sold to Russia or Polen ?
OK, one speaker comes direct from the radio, the other speaker comes from the adaptor.
If I remember right, same colour cables from the radio and adaptor, black plug.
The nine pin plug and the 3 pin plug from the radio goe to the adaptor. The 2 pin plug from the radio and the same plug from the adaptor are for the speakers.
Don't forget the antenna cable.
|laugh|
So, you will be listening to some crapy music soon. |laugh|
Tell us how all works out.
I followed one stereo radio with adaptor on E-bay, it went for 350 US$ .

No Vette scrap yards? Hmmmm, Gunther, if I were you, I would keep that fine looking ride under strict lock and key. They must be getting repair parts from somewhere. Or is it that the driving skills over there are so good that there are never any serious accidents and the insurance companys never total Corvettes thus no need for scrap yards? |confusing|

Hi
All expensive and rare cars are sold instantly to some strange countries and somehow butchered back together.
They make a good car out of 2 bad ones, may add some good parts from stolen cars , fiddle with the paperwork and sell them in Russian countries. ( or they just steel them, eliminates the fixing up |laugh| ). Sometimes, you might even buy your own car back.
This is a big mafioso type business and insurance prices are adapted to models frequently stolen. As everybody knows, insurance companys never loose.

I'm serious about scrap jards. All you can find are normal daily drivers. Nothing newer or expensive stays in Luxembourg.
Spare parts are easy to get, as there are some Vette specialized shops around, but the prices are ridiculous. US$ price + 50 % on top of it.
This is OK for smaller , not expensive parts, but if we go for the big $ units, man that can hurt.
Well, don't forget, a Vette is a exotic car for us , so we have to bleed somewhat. |toungecool|
