Just out of curiosity sake...why no Holleys?

Glenns ,holleys are great race carbs ! But in reality they are maintenance night mares . There are a zillion guys that will tell you different. Thats really fine with me let them have them . There are accesories available that really help,,,but why should I buy a pile of aftermarket parts to make them run right. They are a nightmare in emmision testing . They can produce good power in big blocks and some small blocks depending on application. When you have to drill holes in throttle blades etc, etc,to get them running right wellllllll there are other choices. If I was racing etc, ok but not for me on the street.

Difrent strokes fo difrent folks yall

Geo
PS I just gave approx 15 carbs away including a couple of 850 holleys,afb,quadrajet,etc |bouncy| |bouncy|

No dave ,,,, my setup is safe and sound under my hood ! I am starting on a tube frame gt40 kit for my son and want some quads. It is a rear engine with a 930 porsche transaxle. I will attempt to post some pics of my vette engine soon as I complete a few changes. I am really much better with machinery than puters ! Oh well I really do enjoy laughing at my own mistakes !

I always thought Holleys were a pretty good all-around carb, but ya learn something new every day. I did hear the other day that people do use Holley to race instead of Carters because the Carters won't breathe well enough to make the same horsepower the Holley does for the same size carb. ( i.e. 750 vs 750 the Holley puts out more horses ).

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

I posted a page the other day about Qjets. This guy said they were the best thing going.
What do you guys think about Qjets...? |headscratch|

Seems like most people take them off and replace them with Holleys. I remember that from way back as a kid. I am not talking about just Vettes, they were yanked off everything to make the car go faster. That used to be the big thing, Edelbrock high rise and a 750 Holley dubble pumper. I have a funny story for that, maybe I will put in the the "dumbest thing I ever did " thread. To show both sides, I do believe tha the Q-Jet delivers much better gas mileage.
