Has anyone ever heard this story about GM pulling 9 cars in 1981 and making them convertibles for executives? Here it is on Ebay:

I never heard the story of the 81's getting pulled off the line and
converted. But, every now 'n then I'll catch a glimps of a later C3
that was converted.
Way Cool!

That's a nice car. If the car has proper documentation to back up the story it could bring a very good price. Gold is not normally a color I like but this looks pretty good.

It is a very ice looking Vert. If I were to sell the Blacray I would snatch this car up. I like the odd color as well as the fact it is a 4 spd & a Vert. Being a later model means it has some nice creture comforts providing a good ride while cruisin!!!

There is just something wrong with this picture, I have done a search and cant find anything to back this up. It's a nice car but parts will interchange with the right person doing the work, that rear deck lid is from a convertible, you can order the top rear section by it's self and make just about anything a vert.

I find the story hard to swallow
Maybe Joel has some info on this?

Ok I have to back off the statement, a friend of mine told me he read something about the cars being done, didnt know how many or where it was done. I stand corrected.

well.. just after a little looking, there was a company ACI that created 37 convertibles, but, they were Duntov Turbo's... they had what looks like a daytona style fender flares, to allow wider tires and such.... total of 86 were made with 37 of those drop tops... though there was a 3 Phase stages available(Phase 1, Phase 2..so on)... so, not sure as the article does not go into detail as to what the phases included. Article is from Corvette Fever, here is a link to it.

Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

I remember seeing this here last time it was on e-bay. I think it was agreed at that time that the story was not exactly right, but that there were a small number of conversions done, but none by GM directly. The Duntov convertibles were a different breed - not like this.
I too would love to have this car. I always loved that 80-82 body style.
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!
Well guys after I saw the pictures of the 81 convertible on E-bay,I saw one in N.J when I was looking for my car. This one was white ,however nothing was said about it being 1-of?.If you want to see it ,it's at www.EastcoastcorvettesLLC.com. Now there two that are known.

IIts a nice car, but i am not a ragtop man. Not to offend anyone with the straight window c3, but one of the reasons i chose the 81 is for the body style.
