Vette(s): None yet but looking for a '71 or '72 Roadster, 4spd
Hey guys, I came across this Corvette
http://www.usedcorvettesforsale.com/out.php?id=24540 and reached out to the seller to ask him a few preliminary questions and this is what he told me:
All gauges, headlights and mechenisms work except tach and speed. Also need new needles. ($12 on Ecklers)
Not original paint. Original color was Riverside Gold.
Cannot confirm numbers match. Casting number 3970010 (used on '69 vettes) date code E58 (May, 5, 1968 or 1978), but no VIN on Stamp pad.
What do you guys think? What additional questions or photos should I ask for? Please let me know and thank you in advance!cilrah 2008-06-05 20:10:02

Ask the seller to put the car on a lift and snap pictures of the complete undercarraige. Also ask him to remove the interior kick panels (a couple of screws) so you can see the base of the birdcage and the condition of those two body mounts. That will give you a great idea of the overall condition of the frame.

Just took a quick look, but...it's priced about $5000 too high, imho.
Upper rad hose tied up with zip-ties?
Tach prolly don't work because of the HEI dist...it may not be a tach-drive HEI...
Int. doesn't look too bad, but it needs some work...
Got a lot of miles for that kind of $$$
Personally, I'd have to actually see the car in person....it looks nice, paint-wise, but what does it look like underneath?

So its got a big block hood and a 350?
Joel where do you find these cars for under $20,000? (69-72).
I fail to see them. Any suggestions?
I would love to buy a brother or sister to the 73. Even a hard top would be cool.
Seems to me a non matching # 69 vert in reasonable shape is worth $25,000.
Would I suggest one buys a non matching # car that the speed-o and tach dont work? No.
Spend $10,000 more and get one the way they were made.
Just my opinion, and its free!

Here's one!
Hey...just because they're asking $25,000 for it don't mean it's worth it!
I just see enough Bubba in this one to be suspicious, that's all.
I see some nice '69s verts for that price. It really all depends on what you're looking for in the car. Ya want a fixer-upper, or one you can drive without having to squeeze your cheeks together at every noise?
This particular car, in my opinion, is overpriced for what it is.

I see what your saying Joel.
I guess its kind of like the motocross races. We have whats called "industry" folks who get discount bikes and go to the races for free. They wonder why others of us pay to go to a race and dont get discount bikes.
Well its becuse no one has hooked us up....YET!
So IF I consider you "industry" in the Vette community that just means you know so many folks and see so many cars that, well its just different than what we see by spending hours on the net price shopping.
So someday, if you come across a stock 69, 4 speed, in good shape, (I aint no mechanic) for under $25,000 will you shoot me a pm and let me know?
That would be way cool.
(And no I wouldnt buy that car either.)

A CONVERT UNDER 20G`S? YOU`LL SPEND A GOOD 10G`S BRINGING IT BACK. SOME OF THESE GUYS ARE OUT OF THE BALL PARK FOR WHAT THEY HAVE. YOU REALLY NEED TO SEE THE CAR IN PERSON AND HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU THAT IS FAMILIAR WITH THEM.
IF IT`S A COUPE YOU WANT I NOW SOMEONE DOWN HERE WITH A REAL NICE `72 SMALL BLOCK AUTO FOR 18K YOU CAN PROBABLY SNAG IT FOR 17k.
I LOOKED AT SOME CARS FOR 17K THAT AREN`T IN THE CONDITION THIS ONE IS.
I have to side with Joel on this. Its way different if someone is putting a stack of repair/resto receipts in your hand that say THIS CAR IS DONE. The Orlando auction in Jan, Novi auctions, KC all had driver Vette verts under 20k as did the NJ AC event.. Numbers match are a nuther ball game..

Vette(s): #1 -1969 Corvette Coupe Riverside Gold, black interior,MN,A/C,350/350,PS,PB,window cranks.
#2 -2000 C5, black/black, 6 sp, Bose system & lots of buttons.
It's true that they all need "something." Finding one in good mechanical condition would be #1 on my list, paint & interior can wait. I think I would pass on this one.
