What about this guys? It is in my city, not sure if it is still available.
Looks like intake manifold is painted blue. Not correct for L82 if claiming to be original. Check it with a magnet, should be aluminum. Also 5th digit of vin should be a "4". Shouldn't rule it out if car is otherwise good, but could affect what you might want to offer.
Yep, I would definitely check that Vette out.
Seeing the intake manifold is easy if you know where to look.
It is what the carburetor is bolted to on top of the engine.
If you look just to the right of the sticker on the breather and slightly down you will see a slight hint of blue or turquoise.

Ok 2 questions.
1. How did you see that in the pictures?
2. Where is the intake manifold?

Intake is top of engine between valve covers, (black with fins) below air cleaner and carb. Looks blue as far as I can tell??? Is it blue?? I only point it out cause guy claims all original. L48 was blue, painted cast iron. If you consider this car just be sure it's what he claims. Should also say "L82" on tach below needle. Price is kinda high unless it's REALLY nice with low miles.

I see it now. I guess I was looking for something more obvious to me. Been a long time since I have around an engine and I don't remember as much as my daddy taught me.
I left a message for the guy. Any questions I should ask him? I know milage is going to be the first one.
OK, going to see it right after work since it is only a couple of miles from my work. I work on the north side of Milwaukee and live on the south, so I didn't want to go home and come back. Little nervous about going alone but I should be OK. Neighborhood is on the edge of not so great ones.
I made a promise I would not buy it tonight, that I would bring back pictures and let everyone know all the details first. It has 95,000 on it and it is a rebuilt engine which doesn't thrill me that much. The blue was painted on the intake manifold by accident when they rebuilt it and he said that it is aluminum.
If anyone thinks of anything I should ask or look at, please let me know. I'm leaving at 5:00 CST.
Excellent paint- Repaint? or original? If miles are low and rust free, why was seat leather replaced? Sitting outside kills leather. Always get the vin and check the black book to make sure it's '78 with L82. Alot of people don't know what their selling.
It looks really nice and clean. Bubba hasn't been under the hood. Brakes go bad just with age so SS brake sleeves are a BIG plus. I would check it out if you like the color.

Hi Mike....
I gave her a down and dirty condensed version of it. I left out the OEM portion because in our conversation I don't believe she is looking for that quality of a car.
Numbers somewhat matching. Motor / chassis yes, belts, hoses, trim, etc. No...
This is what I sent her.....
Check this out....
Look at the Obvious...
1. Exterior- paint nice and smooth, matching colors and shiny
- check the air dam for damage.
- Lights work, good lenses.
- mirrors not loose cracked.
- tires, god tread even wear, not dry rotted
- good glass, front back, sides, & top.
2. Interior - good carpet, not faded
- seats no tears working order, sit good.
- dash lights / gages work all screws accounted for
- good dash pad.
3. Engine - Clean doesn't look like Bubba has been there!
- Check the radiator fluid level.
- Radiator fluid nice and green or orange depending
on type.
- Oil level on the mark, nice and clean (not black)
4. Brakes - Good pedal no noise when applied.
5. Clutch - Good pedal no noise when applied.
Drive It! - Drives smooth not mushy, listen for squeaks, noises.
Look under car for leaks & rust. (you know about
rust)

Well I printed out both lists and have them both with me. I have a paper toweling to check the oil. I should still have my little mag light in the van. I think after looking at a few things I will know if I want to check out anymore. I really don't think I am going to get this one, the 95,000 on it really bothers me unless you guys can tell me a reason why it shouldn't.
Well I am closing down my computer now. Wish one of your guys were coming with me. Too bad I don't have my husbands wireless card, I could take my webcam and take you guys with me that way.

Here I go.
OK I am back. How do I explain this visit. Well I can say something
good did come out of it.
Lets start with the car. It is in nice shape. No rot, decent paint job, only surface rust, a bunch of new things, interior is new. No detection of wet storage at all. It does need new tires. It bounced when I drove it but it has a new spring on it. When he checked the tired they were way over inflated and said that could be why it bounce some. The guy even brought me to a place and put it up on a lift for me to look at. This guy was a "friend" of the seller. I will explain more about that later. The car is in really good shape. But I did talk to the owner on the phone and he paid $13,000 for it 2 years ago and put a couple of thousand in it and feels like he should get that back. So I don't think he is budging much on the price.
The guy that was showing me the car was telling me all sorts of stuff and showing me stuff I should look for on Corvette and like if take the t-top off and close the door, if it is rotted in the bird cage the window will actually wiggle. He said to me if I was to nit pick at this car... and he showed me a few minor things on it. He said he had nothing to hide.
Well when we were looking under it he admitted to me that he actually is a Corvette mechanic and the car belongs to someone that use to be a customer at the place he works at. He does work on the side and was doing this as a favor for the guy on helping him sell it, he wasn't getting a commission.
He talked about the place he work but said he would mention any names. I said a company name and he looked at me and smiled. This is the place that I went and talked to the guy that said he could get me a Vette with no problem and I have never heard from him again.
While the car was on the lift, he was showing me all sorts of stuff to look for when I was looking at the cars. The color differences in original and aftermarket pieces like original is gray and aftermarket is black. How where the license plate in the back should be flexible, if it isn't, then it has been replaced. How to look for stuff around the lights. He was so helpful. And for you 74 guys, he said they are fine.
Now here is the good part. I pretty much have found myself a mechanic now and he said if I go and look at Vettes around here, I can call him and he will go with me to check it out.
He told me he doesn't buy or sell Corvettes, so he didn't know if the price on this one was correct, though he thought it was a little high but he didn't know for sure.
So I don't know about this one. I have pictures if you guys want to see. It is a really nice car but 95,000 miles on it. I know a lot of the parts are new but still. The paint job pretty decent. It needs a good buffing. It is a really nice car, I just don't know. I have to think about it.
