Hey Micki, I got in front of a C5 this morning. I see exactly what you mean now. hehe
My husband went out and bought me a Vette but it's an 82, so it's an automatic. You think he would know by now.
To answer your question about rear wheel bearings, theyre kinda important.there are 2 of them in each rear wheel, they allow the rear wheel to spin if you have to have them replaced you should get both sides done .Murphy's law,if one goes the other one ain't far behind.if you have it done at a shop,it's prolly gonna cost ya 1k or more
This is what I was referring to when I asked the question:
Ok everyone, I really need opinions on this.

The guy that owns the 78 Black one in town here called.
He said he is willing to take offers.
This is the L82 95,000 one with a rebuilt engine and the blue painted on the intake by mistake. The info is on page 12 and the pictures are on page 13.
I remember being told $15,500 is too much for it. What would it be worth? The interior in all brand new. The power antenna doesn't work with the radio but the guy before him put in a switch to make it go up and down. It as I called it "bounced" when I drove it but the tires were way over inflated. There are new leaf springs on it so, it isn't that. Oh and it needs new tires.
It is a really nice car, in good shape. This is the one where the mechanic was the one that showed it to me and was showing me things to look for and is willing to go look at Vettes with me.
That paint job is pretty decent on it, just a couple of flaws, nothing really noticeable unless you are looking really hard.
Don't worry about making my mind up for me, because I will still do that, I guess I need to know the pros and cons, things I wouldn't think of and how much it really would be worth. It would be hard to find a car in much better shape.
I know it would make Mike happy because it is a 78 and it would make Tux happy because it is black

An L-82 with a 4SPD is a great Corvette, IMHO.
I don't quite know what to make of the blue painted manifold but I wouldn't let it kill the deal.
It looks nice 'n clean!
Keep us posted.

I had to ask because there are times during the day I wonder "How many cars did she find today"?
You are all very helpful and that is sure not as common these days as it should be.
My exp was not anything like this though. I had driven my 73 twice through my wifes work and then when the boss wanted to sell it I just bought it. After I wrote the check I ask what year it was. Didnt know a c-3 from a d-9.
I have had more fun learning about it AFTER getting one and yes I was very lucky as I found out it is bone stock original and drives like a dream.
(And it appraised for more than I paid for it!)
But thats just me, I couldnt put this much research into heart surgery!
