If it is what he says it is, seem like a decent deal. You will need to go check it out or have someone close by check it for you .

Read the ad carefully. Clearly it has been cut and pasted from another ad. The seller talks about chrome bumpers and original astro-ventilation. Don't believe so on a 74. Tread carefully!

Thank you very much. I really don't trust this guy in the first place. He is almost 2 hours away so it isn't like I can run over and look at it.
This is the main reason why I post this stuff in here. You all have been great and I really appreciate it because I really don't know what I am doing. I would have never known about the stuff above.

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed
Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.
2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
I did bid on one in the Mecum auction but I bid $15,000 on a Yellow 74 which was the highest I promised I would go. It looked like I had it and they said the reserve was off and then someone bid $16,000. They tried to get me to do $16,250 but I said no, even though I didn't want to but I had to stick by my promise.
Proud of you!!! I never got into an auction situation (at least not for a car, let alone a Corvette), but I can imagine how tempting it would be. Stick to your guns. I still think your price range might be a bit low, but I know you'll find something!! Keep looking and good luck!
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!
TJ,
I had a similar situation a few months back at an IRS auction. I was bidding on a 63 Vette that needed a lot of work, a decent driver but needed TLC. I said to myself, a week before, that $22,500 would be my highest bid. This was a published, timed auction which meant all bidding ceased at a certain time. I was the high bidder with 1 minute to go, then a guy bid $23000. I could have gone another $500 and got the car, but I would have violated my own rule. Did I make the right decision? I don't know, but I have bought a lot of cars at auction and the number one rule is stick to your maximum bid.

Well I figure if I add just another $500 more on, what won't make me add another and another and then I am way over what I set my limit at. I never drove the car so, I was a little nervous about that part too. I still have never driven a Vette. I did try the clutch in one and didn't think it was that bad.
I am not haivng a problem finding cars in my price range, I am just having problems finding them as manuals and not red (or not near by). I know it is silly but my accidents happen in red cars on Tues. Just don't want to take the chance.
Here are some of the ads I have been looking at. Some don't say if it is a manual or not. I have an email in to the yellow one trying to find out more info. There was a white one everyone said I should check out, they never emailed me back so I will assume the car is gone.

Okay girl, don't be afraid to post pictures, links, questions, anything, you want to know why, not because we are a bunch of great vetteheads, (we already know that) it is because it is like buying the vette with you, it is the search, the hunt, i think that is one of the reason i think i would like to buy a c5 for the hunt the thrill of the kill.........
Well I just called on what sound just prefect, yellow and everything but of course it was an automatic. I did see this one listed today and have no clue what all the jargon he is talking about means. Can someone help me on this please?
Here is another one. Blue isn't exactly one of the colors I want but I love the side pipes and it sounds at least in the ad like a good car. It is only 20 mins away from where I work.
It ain't stock,
probably got a 396 cu.in. engine bored out to 402 cu.in.,its got a turbo hydromatic,"automatic"its got a special camshaft in the engine, the 3500 stall, is the torqe converter in the tranny, the 9 inch ford is a ford rear end, probably has a straight rear axle instead of independent suspension like a Vette has.Baldwin Motion was a company on Long Island New York, that used to build really hot Corvettes,he copied the racing stripes from them, along with using the hood and rear end,in Motion style.Hope that helps some,it deffinately isn,t a Stock Vette, and it is an automatic
