Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

I've never been a fan of the tan interior, but I think it almost works with the PURPLE. I like it. The white top is a good contrast as well. Although, you do understand that there is a federal law stating that unless it's below 68 degrees or it's raining, you are not allowed to have the top up in a convertible.
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

My next one will be a chromie, and if I was shopin now I'd be checkin out that Purple one. For sure the number of Purple one's are RARE
And I agree with manget the tan works. So did the broker get back to you yet?
Opps forgot your probably there now with your winnings.............

I'm not passing on the purple one. I haven't called him yet. He has called twice now. Maybe sometime today, we will have to see. I might be heading down to Chicago today, if not I have a bunch of stuff I have to get done.
Winnings, ha. But my Mom did come home with an extra $650.
Now you know with the purple one, I am going to have to buy shoes and probably an outfit to match...

[QUOTE=jt's73] Joel I had my doubts that there were chromie bumper cars out there for $20,000 in good shape.Well that one sure "looks" like YOU were RIGHT!A 71, a Vert and $20,000 in great shape. I ran it by the wife as to getting another one but the only problem was... ITS FREAKIN PURPLE!

Ok I want one of these. It is so rare, I have never heard of it.

white pace car in '77...
NOT....

Ok, I am having doubts about the purple one now. I am suppose to go see it on Sunday. Talked with the broker about it. Of course the guy doesn't want to really budge on the price and $19,990 is higher than I wanted.
Noticed that the dashboard was sunken in some, the passenger seat was done really bad if you look at the back. And I have had more than one person point out to me that it has a white top with tan interior plus other stuff about the color of it.
Oh one other thing, it was reconditioned not restored, which I was told was not the same.
So I don't know what to do. I don't have anything planned for Sunday and it is only about 4 hours away, so I don't know if I should just go look at it.
Sigh

Seriously just a quick look at the pictures of the engine compartment will tell you this is not a restored car... you do not toss out factory parts for shinny chrome parts and call the car restored.. The non original color is not just a clue...
Any bumper car that is for sale for under 20K has some problems... even cars rated as "good" have problems. My take is that from the asking price the seller does not even consider it "good"..but considers it darn close to being in overall good shape...
Seriously I'd expect to pay 3-4 or 5 grand more then 20K for a good 71 ragtop.... when you realize that to paint one of these cars is going to cost you 5-6 grand
you soo come to the realization that one should buy cosmetics and fix the mechanical problems because mechanics work relatively cheaply...
I have a 72 ragtop that has been running a 68 350 350 since 1974 when I blew the original engine...it was Ontario Orange when new but I got sick of that color and painted it red...I've wrecked it a couple of times, had it fixed and repainted a few times, and truthfully would not even consider selling it for 20K even with the wrong (but right for me) engine and the wrong (but again right for me) color...
I'm not knocking you at all...I just think you are expecting a lot more out of a car then you are willing to pay for... which btw is not at all uncommon everyone wats to buy a 35 years old car that is as reliable as a new car and looks like new...

I am not looking for a perfect car, I know that I won't pay the price for one. But I do know that I limited myself to $15,000 on a car UNLESS it was perfect FOR ME. And I am getting the feeling this one isn't perfect for me. I have a 79 black Vette here in town in very good shape that is priced at $16,500 if I want it. But it is black and I just didn't fall in love with it. (But Bill makes sure to bring it up ever chance he gets).
I know I can get a decent car for my price range and put money in to it slowly to bring it up to the best level I can. I am just not a very patient person and with the season coming to an end, it is only getting worse for me.
Hell, maybe I should just buy the black one up here and save money on it to paint it yellow. Excuse me while I go
