Needing paint, a possible AC overhaul, and exhaust work, I would offer $5800 max. The paint and AC work can get expensive. It's hard to believe he does not know the condition of the frame and birdcage. If the frame or cage is bad, walk away.

Well I am back. From what I saw, I think the frame was good, the rest of it was a piece of &#$^. I don’t care how much money it was, I would have not bought it.

It needed new carpet, new seats, new weather stripping, half of the gauges didn’t work. There was masking tape on the horn (I didn’t ask). There was a big spot on the car where it was scratched up almost like they took sandpaper to it. It would have needed a complete paint job, not just the bumper. And the lock was missing on the passenger side. I really think I would have been embarrassed to own it.

The one thing that was good is that I finally got to drive a Vette. I see what you guys mean by the clutch but it still isn’t going to stop me from getting a manual. My feet just reached the peddles and I know on the 79’s they are an inch closer than the earlier years.

So I am disappointed that I didn’t come home with a Vette, but I very glad I didn’t settle. Maybe this will give me a little more patience about getting one…. or not Tongue

No worries, just like some one had said, "The right car will talk to you"
My first purchase was a super looking red 80 4 speed (rare) it was great until it was on the lift. It was crashed so bad they had to reweld the bumper brackets over another inch and leave the crossmember bolts for the tranny loose for it to work.
The seller lied thro his teeth, and was mad when I stopped payment on my deposit check Tongue

I decided no vettes for me...then a pristene one came along and once I knew what to look for I knew this was the car. It was... and that was 25 years ago.
The right one will come and in the mean time you are getting educated, no seller will be able to pull one over on you now.
Put a little vette "kitty" aside for now just in case........

Here's another one I might take a look at.

It is only about an hour away, so it isn't too bad. I am going to look up all the info on that year and call with questions.

That one looks nice, but it's a little high priced for the market. If it has really low miles(30k or less), it might be a good deal. Otherwise, I'd think the value would be in the $10,000 range, imho.

It is BLUE, tho....

Well, I wasn't jumping up and down about it and reading my C3 Buyer's Guide book, it says it is hard to come by a decent one unless it has been restored for 77. And if you say it is high, then I will just pass on it.

Does not harm to call and ask how firm is firm, I think this economy is making people flush out some toys. It's a buyers world right now. Call and beat him up or if its that close go drive it. He may not let you walk, you may be the only taker. Give him your number if he wants to go down on price, leave the ball in his court. Wink

Ok ok ok, you twisted my arm. Talked to the guy and he doesn't know much about the car period. He has only had it for 2 years. The odometer does not work. He thinks there is about 70,000 to 80,000 miles on it. It has tilt and new seats. The carpet has wear but is still good and clean. It was repainted but he doesn't know when. He said there is a few flaws but it has a good shine to it.

I am going to go look at it tonight around 8:15. It can't hurt, right? I have a feeling the guy isn't going to go down very far on the price but we will see. If anything, I get to take a second drive in a Vette and maybe this will be a smoother one.
