When I lift the fuel door on my 69 roadster, the door will not stay up in the opened position. The bezel appears to be in very good shape, however I'm wondering if there is component missing. Perhaps there is supposed to be a spring type of mechanism which holds the door in place? The parts catalogs show such a spring for later year C3's, but not for 69. I've talked to other owners and asked them to try their doors for me. Some stay up....some don't. Does anyone know for sure if there is a spring or similar componet required for this bezel? If yes, any idea where I can find a replacement part?

I checked out the Zips and Corvette Central parts catalogs and they both show the bezel and hinge mechanism to be one complete piece with no separate components. 1971 and later have all of the parts independent of each other. Both places sell the replacement bezel/hinge for the 1968-1970 Sharks for $49.95. Zips part number is GT-303 and Corvette Centrals is 363019. Hope this helps you out...Matt
I too have the same problem with my fuel door on my '69. I found it easy to live with by keeping a 12" long piece of flexible wire in the car. I thread the wire through the door latch and wrap the ends around the luggage rack. This of course only works with a luggage rack!!
