After too many years of hibernation, I have begun the recesitation of my 72 BB. I was under the car last night and was looking at the fuel pump, in order to assess how much work it will be to replace. Even by removing the steering rods, I'm a little stumped at how to gain access to the mounting bolts, musch less the pump rod access hole.
Anyone with a BB care to share any painful fuel pump memories / tips ??
Happy St Pats Day!!

It can be done without removing anything from the car. I have done it successfully twice. Once because i figured my 30 year old car could use a new fuel pump, and the second time because my brand new ac delco pump crapped out on me after 2 weeks, so i put the old one back on. Anyway, it is not fun, it took me a few hours the first time as it is quite tight. If you look carefully you can actually take your right front wheel off and get a few extensions and come in from the wheel well. This works quite well to get at the mounting bolts. The pump rod access hole is another story. You will most definitely have to use some really thick grease to get it to stay in there while you mount the new one. Good luck, it can be done.
