Do fuel pumps have a check valve on the outlet? I installed a pressure gauge between the filter and the carb. At idle, the gauge needle oscillates between 0 and about 7lbs, as the engine speed increases it seems to settle in around 6 1/2 lbs. I thought that a fuel pump with a return line would have some sort of regulation and a check valve on the outlet. When the engine is shut off, the pressure reading drops to 0 immediately. Is this normal, or is the pump history? (The pump is approx 16 years old, but has few hrs on it.)

TIA & Happy and safe 4th to all.
