Vette(s): Owned a Red 75 corvette between 1985-1993. Recently purchased a 76 buckskin Corvette.
Hi peoples,|wavey|

I have a 76 L48 with the single exhaust.

I want to know if it is possible to use a '74 dual exhaust kit on a '76? Ecklers is about 10 miles from my house and they sell the exhaust pipes and mufflers for a '74 L48 vette. I have a torch if cutting/welding is needed.

No visual/emissions testing in FL

It should fit fine since you're removing the converter anyway. I believe the parts books list different part numbers for the mufflers, but I think they still fit the same anyway. I believe the oe type mufflers for your car are round and the later ones are oval shaped that tuck up under the rear of the car better. I've got a true dual exhaust system on my '78 and everything fit perfect.

I do know the 75 will use the 74 exhaust as an exact fit, and that's what I'm going to do to mine. If the 76 frame is the same, it will fit. I'm not sure, but it think so.

The frame is the same through at least '78. It was the '79 or '80 model year Chevy did away with the second hole through the frame for a dual exhaust pipe to go through.

Even with the later automatic frames you can mod an early crossmember (not easy?) or use a tubular one like the 700R4 one from BowTie overdrives. For a stick car with a fixed crossmember, you must cut out the old one and add brackets to use an early auto xmbr or tubular one. Can't remember when fixed crossmembers ended, about 78 maybe? Don't think I've ever seen a single-exhaust-hole fixed crossmember, they are all removable if memory serves.

It should work, but Ecklers also sells dual exhaust kits for '75-'79. They list these "for off road use only", because the kits do not have cats. They also offer 2" and 2 1/2" pipe kits. The main difference between the exhaust are the muffler options. Talk to their tech personnel and they can help you get the correct exhaust for you. I wish they were down the road from me!

The major change came in '80. MidAmerica makes an under car chambered system that will fit up to '79. Fortunately, MidAmerica also makes a true dual system for '80-'82. That's what I went with. Headers, 2 1/2" pipes, Flowmaster Delta flow 40's.
I would definately check out the chambered system for your '76.

I just put a new Allen's Exhaust system on my 79 - L82.
It was an early production 70, so the frame was ready to accept the left side pipe.
Allen's includes in their system, (optional), the bracket at the transmission area to hold the dual pipes. as there was only one with the cat converter.
Don't forget to keep all the original parts.
Well worth it and the aluminized pipes look great. |saluteflag| |cool|

From another of my posts,,,
Here's the exhaust I am about to put on my '79 w/ no cats.
It's not up yet, looks good on the floor next to the Vette. He also has the front trans mounted hanger for the dual exhaust. His name is Gordon.
