I would have to assume there is enough to lower the tank. You should be able to remove the rubber "cup" that fits around the filler neck, and see the hoses from the top. If not, then just drop the tank a little, and pull the hoses from the frame side.

So the rubber neck I see from the gas tank filler door is removable from outside?.....Do I simply pull it up and out thru the deck? Thanks again. Also did not know there are connections near frame rail.I want to remove tank, check it,and remove rear bumper while it's out.
Mike, after you remove the mounting braces on the tank you will have enough room to reach up and disconnect (or Cut) the rubber hoses. Hope you have the tank pretty empty. Fuel is very heavy (7.5 lbs per gallon I think) a bulky tank with fuel in it is a B*$ch. Removing the bumper while the tank is out is a great idea. Once you get your bumper off there is a opening right on the right corner of the bunper brace where you can see the fuel lines where you disconnected the hoses. While your there suggest you take a air compressor and blow your fuel lines out just be sure you take the hoses lose up front on the fuel pump. You will be suprised how much gunk will fly out. While you have the bumper off and tank removed you will be able to line your holes up easier too (lucky you) for a better fit. Suggest you go ahead then and mount the fuel tank back, WHY? Because you can reach through that opening again and attach new rubber hoses and clamps throgh that opening while the tanks is fully mounted. Its hell to hook them up by rasing the tank enough to connect the hoses while supporting the tank. The bumper clearance is goo to remount the bumper. This is kind of long but just sharing little tid bits of info. Good luck and thanks.

I got some pics of the tank sitting on the frame and with the sending unit off the tank, might be a little helpfull for you. They are pretty heavy unless you can get all the fuel out, it's definately worth some extra effort to get as much as you can out.
